    From the link:

Pastor Furtick reportedly has refused to disclose his salary to the Elevation Church congregation, as well as the general public, although the megachurch discloses in its 2012 financial report (read it here) how much it received in "average weekly operating offerings" ($391,299) as well as how much was given in the church's seven-year lifetime of ministry in local and international outreach ($2.5 million).

Elevation Church does not have elders or deacons, something which the Southern Baptist Convention to which the North Carolina church belongs leaves to the discretion of its members.

Elevation is not a church. It is a cult. Steve is called "the visionary" and people are expected to fall in line an blindly follow

I know one of his College Bible Profs. His degree is in theatre ot acting not Bible.

    Just google his name

I don't think I would join it. There are some concerns I have about the church and the leadership but I haven't looked into it enough to have a firm sense of it and would do so if I lived in the area.

Some here were talking about situations like a new church plant, where a church may be without deacons or elders other than the pastor. And that sounds totally reasonable.

But these guys...it doesn't give me a warm fuzzy. I don't see why a church that big would shy away from total transparency. Our business reports are open to anyone, monthly numbers on salaries and everything else.

In this day and age a church will be attacked. Why give your opponents any more ammo? Just my opinion.

Keeping a secret gives them ammo, but if it's bad enough, revealing it would give them more.

    NO.

The original meaning of the word hypocrite is: actor or pretense. There are two interesting terms used in this thread: pop culture and orthodoxy--very ambiguous to be sure.

That New Testament churches should distance themselves from such groups is a given.

That the SBC needs some serious introspection is also a fact. There are some serious credability issues here. Ecumenism is alive and well--right here in River City--an insidious spiritual toxin which permeates our society. Jesus said that would happen before He returns. Are we ready?

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

No, I would not join the Elevation Church. There are numerous issues with this bunch, but the one under discussion in your OP -- a secret salary set by a outside body that cannot even be know to the congregation -- is alone enough for me.

If God told me to go join that church, I wouldn't care about any perceived failures, hidden failures, open failures, etc...

If God told me to go join, I would.

Just like where I am now - God told me to go join, so I did.

I really don't understand the mentality of believers who so quickly answer "no, because they..."

I suspect the reason you have is that God has plans for you in that church.

Therefore - if God told you to join a church whose pastor is Joyce Meyer - you would join?

Correct. I led a bible study 3 years ago which aided in reshaping church doctrine. And last year started preaching....

Yup. I can't say I'd like it, as I wasn't real crazy about coming where I am now. But I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that He told me to come here.

fwiw, I knew 4 years ahead of actually coming here. I had no idea of timing, etc....tried to be faithful where I was, and trusted God to lead/make the way....

If He told me to join her church, I would
