Wrestling:

It's entertainment. If you enjoy that sort of stuff, then more power to ya. I personally think that sort of entertainment is shallow, but I don't think there's any biblical reason to call watching WWE a sin, if that's you're inquiring about.

But the difference is, today, everyone knows, and the WWE performers state, that it's nor real. It's two bit acting in the ring. Everything's staged. Now, in the days of Hulk Hogan, it was staged, but the industry proported that it was real. Some reporters even got assalted by wrestlers in the 80's, for reporting that it was fake. These wrestlers back then were a bunch of liars, and that included Hulk Hogan. I don't know if Hogan is a Christian now, but I'll take your word for it. He certainly didn't act like one then, if he was.

I'd be curoius as to how many people might find it a double standard about being skeptical about Britney Spears and being saved, but would not be so skeptical with a WWE wrestler and Christianity (those guys wear a heck of a lot less than her).

 

No double standard here. I don't believe these liars are Christians.

I remember, many years ago, there were a few who professed Christian faith and practiced their beliefs. One was a "Whipper" Billy Watson. He gave his life to helping crippled children. His home was dedicated to clean living; no drinking, no smoking, no foul language. All the virtues we expect from the average Christian. Was it staged back then (1940-early 50's)? I think so, but no one ever denied it wasn't entertainment using athletic skills, or gymnastic skills, if you wish.

To-day, I have heard the Harts of Calgary profess evangelical faith in Christ and I have heard his foul mouth at the same time. I have serious questions.

Do we allow for different standards for celebrities who profess faith? We ought not. We should expect the same witness. It is not so much their field of activity as it is their activity in that field.

I am an amateur wrestling fan, but not too interested in so-called professional wrestling.

 

The WWE is probably not the best source of entertainment (although yes, I do watch it occasionally when I have nothing better to do he he).

However, I have followed the story of Shawn Michaels very closely; Shawn has become a strong Christian; maybe I am going off on the deep end, but I believe that God has him in that business for a reason.

Shawn's testimony can be found anywhere on the internet; he is openly ashamed of some of the crude things he did before Jesus saved him. However, I believe it is evident to all that he has changed; he states that his purpose for being in wrestling has changed. In that world of sin, crudeness, and immorality, he feels that God wants him to be a witness. This will probably draw the ire of many people, but he has made that decision. Needless to say, his faith has affected many people, including Vince McMahon himself, who respects Shawn's faith and does not ask Shawn to do anything to compromise it. Sure, I ask myself at times, "How does he stand out there, toe to toe with a man who is cussing him out while he smiles and wears Christian t-shirts?" Then I read the interview where he states how he has been able to be a real, genuine witness in the locker room. Then I remember that God saves people for a purpose. He wants everyone, even Goldberg, Vince McMahon, and Stone Cold to accept Jesus.

Isn't it great to see how God places his people in strategic places?

Sometimes we have to get muddy to reach the lost. A man doesn't drown in a dry lake. It is when we become part and parcel of the world that we lose our light. I am afraid it dims somewhat.

We stopped watching wrestling a long time ago. We found it not compatible with our Christian faith. Hate filled speech, cussing, near naked women. I have never seen anything from Hogan that made me believe he was a Christian. If he were he would have allowed himself to be represented like he has over the years.
On the other hand I am really glad if Shawn Michaels has been saved. He used to be my favorite and I prayed for him all the time. Since we do not watch wrestling any longer I have no idea if he life in wrestling has actually changed or not. If so, then maybe people will see the difference between that and the others who only claim to be Christians and look just like the rest of the unbelievers in wrestling.
