You gotta love those Westboro Baptists?

I couldnt stomach the whole thing. This is one case where I would be in agreement that they should take the name "Baptist" off their sign.

There are lots of people who call themselves Christian who are cheering these people on. Wanna bet there are some on this board?

Rev.M.,

I agree. I had to turn it off. I guess that they will be keeping this stuff after the rapture, too.

The sad thing is that this is what some believe that all baptist churches are. Kind of makes me wonder why God doesn't use lightning bolts!

At least Hannity pointed out that they are not associated with any mainline Baptist group, allthough one of the tag banners kept displaying them as a "Baptist hate group." The problem is that whenever people see the name Baptist, and something like this, they immediately think it is Southern Baptist.

They identify themselves as Independent Fundamental Baptists.

Westboro Baptist is why we have Westover Baptist, online (now that I think of it; it is probably a direct spoof of that particular church!)
She's telling them to "obey", but does she personally know that they aren't obeying? She's blaming all the sodomy almost on them, but that was FOX news! Don't they take the conservative side of things like that? I'm glad that the guy finally got around to asking her about their sins, which she just avoided. When they stand before God, are they going to tell Him "Oh, you tried that before..."? That is the key to challenging the whole Phelps ideology. If God hates sin, then what about theirs? If He forgave theirs, then how do they know He won't forgive others'? This is what anybody who challenges them should go straight into rather than "oh, you're so mean; religion is about love", etc. This silences them every time. Anybody whose mission is "God and me together against the world" forgets which side of the "man vs. God" conflict they started out on.
And as Calvinists, they should be especially ashamed. The whole point of that doctrine is supposed to be our utter indebtedness to God, but they do not look indebted at all. This type of thing is one of the caricatures Calvinists sometimes make of "Pelagians".
As I always say, they were probably molested by the same gneder as children, and they snapped and are now taking it out on everyone else. Perhaps the next terrorist attack should hit them. Then what would they say? Probably some form of "see, this is all you sodomites' fault, we're suffering for your sin"/"we are suffering for the Cross". But then that's just what the terrorists think when they get killed (minus the Cross, of course).

I believe you mean Landover Baptist Church, as the spoof. I looked up Westover Baptist Church, and found several legit with that name, and no parodies, that I saw at first glance.

The people at Westboro Baptist Church are not like the vast majority of Baptists or other Christians.

However, they seem to have one thing in common with the person who created this thread: they seem to enjoy insulting people without direct provocation.

This thread does not even fit in this forum because interdenominational doctrinal disagreement is not an issue of this thread.

I'm not so sure they are as rare a breed among Baptists as we might think. I've seen some eye opening things around here lately that are close to being in the same category, and that are delivered with the same gusto.

They claim to be Primitive (Old School) Baptists; the Primitives I am familiar with cringe whenever they're linked to Fred Phelps. And so they should be.

You're right. I guess it's a similar style of English town name, and I got it mixed up. Sorry to all the Westovers out there.

Hmm...I read the OP and didn't see any insults. The Phelps clan is their own worst enemy. Their hatred is sad and sick. I think there is some kind of mental illness at work in that bunch.

The church is mostly family members. You have to wonder how they get DNA in there from outside.

They are always on the "obey God" kick. None of the national reporters ever seem to actually getting around to asking them what they believe about redemption and salvation, and then turning that belief on their actions. Hannity makes the statement that he's a Christian, but he clearly doesn't know enough about Christianity to ask the questions that would put these people in their place.

Maybe someday, someone will.

I just watched the three part video of this Roper woman (should I use the word 'woman'? after all, it is a title of respect in the Word of God) in Greensboro, NC. In the third part, she blatantly curses and then just a sentence or two later talks about how our conversation is to be chaste.

Shirley Phelps Roper better learn what the word chaste means.

She puts down Anne Graham Lotz for preaching the Word of God when she is standing there in the video and preaching here false gospel of hatred to a preacher who was interviewing her.

She is good at pointing out so-called faults of others while three of her own fingers are pointing back at her.

Pot calling the kettle black?

Inquiring Mind had been a flame thrower in the thread http://www.baptistboard.com/showthread.php?t=33519&page=2
starting post #18. He is non-Baptist, and this thread was created as sarcasm.

I think Jesus described them well in Matthew 7:15-23, "Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. "You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? "So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. "A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. "Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. "So then, you will know them by their fruits. "Not everyone who says to Me, `Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven [will enter]. "Many will say to Me on that day, `Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' "And then I will declare to them, `I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.'

I am curious. Who are all these throngs of Christians cheering them on? I don't think I have ever met one.

You also seem to imply that there are members of this board cheering him on. Would you please introduce me to these people? I have been on here since 2000 and haven't yet met them. I have seen numerous threads throughout the years expressing outrage and condemnation for them. I have yet to see anyone defend them.
