    1. You jokingly call yourself a "church widow"
    2. Your kids have their own toys and blankets that are always kept at church
    3. You answer two phones, one for church and one for the house, and sometimes you can't remember which is which
    4. You claim personal stock in the No Nonsence hosiery company
    5. Everyone in town knows your husband's salary and how you spend it
    6. Everyone in town knows exactly how many washcloths are hanging on your clothesline
    7. No one has ever asked you what your favorite dish is, but your husband's favorite dish is always present in triplicate at every church dinner.
    8. You can't remember your first name because you're always introduced as "our pastor's wife"
    9. It's your job to discreetly let the pastor know if he's too longwinded, whether by tapping your watch or pulling your ear
    10. You've learned most of your church member's phone numbers by heart, either because you've called them so much, or they call you and their number is permanantly etched in the caller id
    11. You get to clean your husband's church office because no one else will go near it with a ten foot pole on work party day
    12. You always have to make sure the back of your hair looks good because 99% of the church people sit behind you

I read these to my wife and she said, "You always hear what great kids you have, even from the lady under who's they routinely escape to the back of the sanctuary..."

My church members are really great about my kids. I have three sons, my 12 year old has always been very well behaved and is a delight, my 9 month old is a smiley baby, and my 3 year old, while being incredibly sweet and happy, is also autistic and marches to the beat of his own drum... to say the least :) Our Church family is a wonderful support group for our family and we are truly blessed.

Lots of humor there -- lots of hurt, too.

I am thankful that my wife is my wife, not the "pastor's wife". She does not have some stereotypical role forced on her by church members and can have her own ministry and life apart from mine.

When first married, I was youth pastor in a large suburban church and simply called "Pastor Bob" by the teens (I had not yet earned my first doctorate). My wife? They called her MRS Pastor Bob. Don't think any of them knew her name!!

Thankfully, the times they are a-changin' ;)
