Your first email

I think my first e-mail was through juno.com and we used dial-up. It had to be about 1999 or 2000.

 

MIne was through AOL.. something tinytim... I think.. I don't remember.... it was in 99.

You know, last century....

 

My first email was in 1988 on an experimental UNIX platform at the college I attended.

"real world" email for me was in 1994.

 

1977 at work,
1984 at home

At home I had to do the internet (well proto-internet) front & back ends (strings of numbers). After the first one, it took me two weeks to get the right combination of numbers

At work it was simpler, send your message to a central point, check your mail box. Some weeks there would actually be a message or two.

 

My first email address was in April of 1997. I went to an internet marketing seminar before that in January and they told me about a new service called "HoTMaiL"

Later that year, in July, I got an email saying that there were now 1 million hotmail accounts.

So it seems I was one of the early users.
Oh, and that was before MS bought Hotmail.

 

My first one was in May, 1999, right after the big
"May 3rd tornado" came through here. I had no phone service, and wanted to send a message someone out of state, so they would know we were OK.

I went to Kinko's to use their computers, registered with HotMail, and sent the message.

 

My first one was with a local FidoNet BBS back around 1984 or so.

 

Sent my first e-mail back in August of 1997 on the WebTV internet service. Got everything hooked up and wanted to make sure I was good to go, so I sent an e-mail to my sister. Got a quick reply and the rest, as they say, is history.

 

Are you talking abut dialing using the INIT string? I recall having to do that back in the DOS days. I remember getting a 9.6K modem. I was the envy of all the geeks. I also remember having to use gopher to surf the internet. There were commands like get and put etc... Then there were the bulletin boards. They were a big deal back then but seem like nothing now.

I don't remember my first email but like Roger it would have been from a free disc. Pretty much the internet was free back then. I also had a Juno address for a long time also.

I still have my Tandy TRS80 out in the garage somewhere...

 

Hmmm... It was in the early 90's, but I don't remember the exact year. Our Sunday School class was going to start an email newsletter and I didn't have internet access. Juno offered an email account that let you dial up and just do email. I installed it on our old 233MHz Packard-Bell and away I went.
