These hymns have stayed with me. Many are hymns I've only known for 10-15 years. I can remember a friend give his testimony why he wanted to be a church musician. He sang "Why do I sing about Jesus." It was the first time I heard the song and have not been the same since. There are many, many other favorites.

My favorite by far is

I love every verse in this hymn. I am a twenty five year old male who doesn't get shaken up over much. I don't cry at any movie. But sometimes when I sing this song to myself I get teary eyed. Goose bumps are a given.

There's really a song named Londonderry Air? LOL! I can only imagine the word changes that song must have suffered through over the years...

Londonderry is a city of about 60k in Northern Ireland on the River Foyle. The 'air' is named in tribute to this Irish town.

'London' of course is in England and 'derry' is a nonsensical word used in children's rhymes (according to OED). But put together, they become a real town!

Historically Londonderry has always been Derry to the Irish. The British added London but this was never accepted by Nationalists.

Traditionally Catholic/nationalists call it Derry, Unionist/Protestants call it Londonderry.

Some compromise was reached a few years ago when Derry City council became a nationalist controlled council. The city is officially called Derry whilst the county is officially referred to as Co.Londonderry.

It'll always be Derry to those of us who appreciate our Irish heritage.

Nothing to do with music but thought I'd clear that up.

A nonsensical word? Were my grandfather alive, I'm sure that would come as quite a shock to him, since he grew up in Derry City.

Just for trivia's sake, a good friend of mine had an Irish rebel band called "Spirit of '16" and I used to sit in with them here and there.

One of the songs we used to do was "Back Home in Derry" (sung roughly to the tune of "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald"):
