Your view on abortion

So who on this board worships nature? Do we allow a preemie to perish because statistics show that it could have poorer health? Poorer health in relation to what group, babies that are born after full term? Statistics also show that people above the age of 80 have poorer health than the rest of the population. Do we dispose of them for poor health reasons?billwald said:
I said abortion is wrong. I would make an exception in the case of the life of the mother. In that circumstance, I don't think abortion is wrong, but it's unfortunate. I disagree with some vague concept of the health of the mother which can include so many psychological factors to the point at which the criteria become meaningless.
Wrong unless the mother's life is endangered, when it's a matter of trading one human life for another - in other words a lose-lose situation ethically. For me, the debate thus hinges on the meaning of 'endangered'.

For the record I was 10 weeks premature and have had no health problems whatsoever.
Stats and news stories can be made to show anything a person wants to show.

It has been well know for years that preemies are more likely to carry short and long term health consequences depending upon how premature they are.
I was born prematurely with my sister. Our mother panicked, as it was known 36 years ago that premature babies vs full term babies- well it's obvious-adverse health issues. When nature's course isn't complete, that's logically what happens. Almost all pregnant women in our area are educated enough to know this imo, and panic when they go into labor early (maybe not by a few weeks here or there, but a month or longer imo).
The largest study to date, just released concerning the long term health consequences regarding premies verifies the info available for at least the last 36 years. I like to keep up on the various new health information.
Maybe if I had went full term, I could have been a Doctor. But dyslexia and ADD made school very difficult for me. From birth, my eyes have been very weak.
My BB posts are usually edited after I hit the submit button. This is because the blue background is not as stressful on my eyes. They need to be edited because with ADD, the words float about my brain and I need to grab them down, and put them in some kind of order. Sometimes it takes a while.
Got all A's in English and creative writing, but it took much effort. Taking hours to do what a normal person could do in just one hour.
The internet is a blessing with the larger words and various color backgrounds. Today, being a Doctor could have been a possibility. Our son will probably be a Doctor, he is starting College this year, early at 17 years old. He was not premature.

Joe, no doubt that premature babies can have the risk of ongoing health concerns. But that is in no way a justification for abortion at any stage of pregnancy.

I agree. My oldest son was born at just 24 weeks. That is just about the threshold of survival. But other than the first four months of his life he is perfectly normal with no lingering or foreseeable health concerns.
My vote is that abortion is wrong.
