    http://www.snappedshot.com/archives/507-Sen.-Bill-Nelson-D-FL-supports-terrorism!.html

Senator Nelson, I could've sworn that the Department of State was solely responsible for representing the United States to foreign governments. Why would you bother to meet with a known sponsor terrorism, other than to somehow improve your party's chances of success in the 2008 elections?

To think that a mere 40 years ago, such actions were still identified as what they are: HIGH TtREASON

Update: Provided a picture of the happy couple, above.

Here is the Dishonourable Nelson's side of the story. Even as a future member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, there is no precedence for Senators conducting the foreign policy of the nation, is there? Why else would the Congress have created the Department of State, anyway??

Update again: Condoleeza Rice has reiterated that direct talks with the terrorist supporters in Syria and Iran are not on the table. Is the Congress planning on pursuing its own foreign policy, wholly seperate and distinct from the Executive Branch's? If so, can they please consider seceding into their own nation to do so, so they don't get the rest of us killed?

Well, it isn't as bad as arming the Iranians like Oliver North did.......
Wouldn't you consider that "high treason?" He sold weapons to a sworn enemy of the United States.

I am proud to say that, when North attempted a run for a Senate seat, THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA KICKED HIM TO THE CURB.

So yer saying he shouldn't hold office ? Should Nelson ?

Seems like Ollie had to answer for his part, I saw him raked over the coals. Think Nelson should answer some questions ?

Heh, now they're claiming that an American citizen is guilty of treason for even talking to a foreign leader.

No wonder decent Americans took Congress away from them. Equating this sort of thing with Ollie North giving weapons to our sworn enemy is a perfect example of the sickness in the GOP.

Absolutely. As a matter of fact, so did the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Well, he certainly got a supermajority in Florida when he was up for election. I voted for him when I was in Florida, and was a registered Republican.

Not really - as I recall, he invoked the Fifth Amendment, which of course was his right. Once he received immunity, he answered some questions, but was still convicted of aiding and abetting in the obstruction of a congressional inquiry.
Oliver North sold weapons to Iran, a sworn enemy of the United States, and a member of the "axis of evil." He is a bad guy, plain and simple. And yet, there he is on FoxNews as a contributor. I almost get sick every time I see him....

For talking? That is up to the authorities to decide.

    Regards to you and yours,
    BiR

Do you really believe a Lt. Col could do what he was accused of doing? He was just an O5. A General couldn't get all those guns to Iran. He was just the fall guy.

    Hey LeBuick,

Yes, as he apparently freely admits to doing it.

It was a difficult time. We had enemies, who were gathering against us. Congress was dithering and bickering about what to do.

A young officer, a war hero takes matters into his own hands. To help further his idea of a political solution, he transfers US military assets to our sworn enemies.

He is caught, but escapes punishment.

    Is this treason?

Not treason, but definitely in violation of the Constitution he is sworn to uphold.

    Title 18 U.S. Code
    Section 953

"Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both."

Two errors there. First, the US code is not the Constitution. Second, you seem to have forgotten to show that he actually did what the section prohibits. Notice that it does not say that Americans cannot meet with officials of other governments. It merely says in effect that they can't meddle in our government's policy.

Nice try, though. Treason would be something like selling weapons to the Iranians, or negotiating with them to keep our hostages until after Carter was out of office.

I'm of the opinion that unless you can show that he did, you're just engaging in false witness.

It's as though you accused someone who visited your house of stealing, even though you can't find anything missing.

It's a real shame, carpro. It really is.

He freely admits to treason so we allow him to retire from the military, keep his rank and give him a TV series.

    Yes, it really is.

Publicity hungry politicians should leave foreign affairs to the Executive Branch and the State Department, as the law requires.

    First he says....
    Then he says....

I'm of the opinion that if you can't prove the former, yer guilty of the latter.

Still stewing about the overwhelming repudiation of Bush, the Republicans and conservative, right wing politics, I see.

You do know that North testified under immunity before Congress as to what he did - that is why his conviction was (wrongly, imo) vacated.
