PJ - thanks for remembering! Yes - today is the big test. Poor Lauren has been eating, sleeping and studying Chemistry - PRAY that she passes. I told her if she got a 90 or higher, I'd buy her an iPod.

Today is a rainy day so far but it should clear up. We're also to get lower temps and lower humidity once this rain passes through - right now it's at 97% so still pretty sticky. Today I'm supposed to go to church for the organizational meeting but I'm having Bob take notes for me because the meeting might run late and I need to get Lauren to school at noon - so I'll stay home and work on the housework and the church website too. We're re-doing the church website to a new program (Drupal) and I'm beginning to transfer information over. MAN, have we got a lot of info!!

Just to give you guys a heads-up - I know I've not been around a ton but from Sunday through the following Saturday, I'm not going to be around at all. I'll be at camp riding horses! I'll go to a camp run by the Pioneer Girls (it's Camp Cherith in the Adirondacks) and work with the horses for the week before the girls come in to start camp. They're one of the few camps around that still have horsemanship and their horsemanship person hurt her back so for the last 3 years, I've been going up to ride in her place. This year will be weird because normally I take my daughter Nicole (who's going to be 15 in a few weeks) but this year this happens at the same time as "Youth Week" at church so she wants to stay home for that. So I'm going up with just Robby (6) and Joanna (4) - which means that I lose another rider AND my babysitter. I'm thinking of going against everything I believe in and get a travel DVD player. I'm at the barn from 9AM to noon then from 1 to 5 and the kids will have to hang out there for much of that time. They're really good about playing but I'd like to have a few extra things to keep them occupied. I hate to sit them in front of the TV, but if it keeps them happy for a bit - I just may do it. We'll have to see.

So, pray that Lauren does well today (her test is at 12:15-3:15 NY time. If she passes, we're all good.

I learned something about fruit trees yesterday. A lot of them come from grafts and often the graft tree dies off, but the fruit tree grows again from the root. Hence, the green leaves sprouting from the ground. I shall nurture these leaves and see what comes from them, but I won't look for fruit this year. It may take 4-5 years for those leaves to develop into trees...........

Thankfully, we are not grafts when we are born again in Christ. We are a new creation, but some of us suffer the same pains of grafts; the old dies off whilst the new grows and takes over from the old.

Jim, the fruit won't be the same on the root stock as it would have been on the graft. The tree itself is likely to be fairly hardy. Go figure.

I have a couple of pear trees in my back yard that started out being flowering pears (no fruit). When we moved in they were both covered up in honeysuckle and were very unhealthy. We took a chainsaw to both and thought that would be the end of them. Not so! Both regrew from the stump/root and now we have two healthy pear trees that grow a tiny pear much the size of a crab apple (crab pears?). The squirrels love them. The kids do too, but not for eating! Late in the fall they have "pear fights" with the over ripe fruit. And they still flower nicely in the spring.

Hmmm, I don't seem to be getting much done today.....

Good morning all,
I haven't gotten much done this morning either. My sis went last night to her house that she is remodeling to feed the dogs and said that the river nearby was still out of banks and was almost to a friend's house. It is supposed to be only 88 degrees today but we are supposed to be in for more storms!
Ann: Lauren is in my prayers. I am sure that she will do fine.
I had better go, neice and nephew are up and I am sure that they are hungry! Time to go cook a late breakfast! Y'all have a blessed day!

Just dropping by to check in as it is time to put lunch on the table for 7 people who are helping with the siding today.

One back part of the house is finished and it looks absolutely beautiful!!! I feel like a Queen!

I also feel like a nut because I took Brent for his appointment with the urologist this morning and it's not until tomorrow morning...

Have fun and play nice. I'm not sure when I'll get back in. Pastor Bob preached at our church last night and, of course, it was a good sermon. LOL

I need someone to pinch me..... I don't believe that I am on the BB. It must be a dream. I tried to get on all morning, until 11:00 AM but was not able. Kept getting this weird message.....

Lenke and I had an 11:30 AM doctor's appointment, so I was never able to log in before noon. We are back now, and so is the BB. I guess it needed some maintenance. We all do. By the way, the doctor's report was good news and bad news. The good news is that neither of us have plaques in our arteries and the bad news is..... but I won't bore you with those. Needless to say that we are grateful to the good Lord that we wake up each morning enjoying His unlimited love and grace! :type:

Good afternoon, everyone. It's nice and warm here in Tennessee. We almost had to turn the heater on. It was 58. Now it's past 90. We are still 12" short on water this year....official drought..the worst one in 118 years.

I haven't been on in a month. It sure doesn't seem like that long. I haven't been posting much anywhere of late. Seems like things are just far too busy. I know that Vivian would appreciate it if you would pray for the situations going on with Dell right now. They're laying off between 8,000 and 11,000 workers, and they've already started. There have been several who've been offered and taken the one month severence package. Vivian is praying for some job security, as am I with her. If she loses her job, we lost the insurance, and through our human eyes, if she has to go, we don't see any chance for continued coverage. We know that the Lord will provide, though, should this situation hit us.

Blessings to you all. I hope to be back more often. It's just so hard to get on here any more. I like the old format better. I can never remember my logon, even when I write it down! LOL :tonofbricks:Yet, we know that :godisgood:!!!!!

I had the same trouble as Brother Barnabas. Even the same error message. Then I went to the doc also. (striking similarity isn't it?) Unfortunately, I still couldn't get on when I got back home about 1:30 CST. Then I had two sets of company so I didn't try.

My doc said I would live. He said I've pulled my back muscles out pretty bad (really, I didn't DO anything that should have caused this) and gave me a nice little shot and a perscription for muscle relaxers and orders not to do anything for the next few days (like the fact that I couldn't draw in a deep breath without a severe pain stabbing me through my back hadn't already given me that idea).

And I had plans for today! I had furniture I wanted to move and a garage I wanted to rearrange (just a little bit). Hmph! Instead I bought myself a few murder mysteries and I'm allowing my children to wait on my hand and foot. Got a couple of Tanya's girls here even, just in case mine stop feeling sorry for me.

Glad you don't have to start reading the obituaries just yet, Brother Barnabas.

Glad to hear from you Tony, and I'll certainly add this concern to my prayer list.

WOW, Cindy, I don't believe this. We did the same thing today. Tried to log on to the BB and went to our respective doctor's appointments. We also went to the drug store afterward to get our prescriptions..... But no, you can't find us on the obituary columns yet. PTL, we are still kicking! :type:

It has been a wee while since I posted.....it has been the coldest in 80 years, I am typing with mittens on, it is awful, houses here are built for heat not for cold. Sunny but cold and windy ( I hate the wind).

Went to the funeral of the father of a friend of mine yesterday and one of the congregation dropped dead on her way home, I found that quite shocking for some reason.....

I have a new shower screen which is beautiful, the old one was out of the ark....so I feel as if I have renovated the bathroom in one hit.....the bright PINK tiles hit you in the eye in a manner of speaking.....the bathroom is galah coloured...pink,grey and white.

LAUREN PASSED HER CHEMISTRY EXAM!!!! NO SUMMER SCHOOL!!!!!!

PRAISE THE LORD!!!!!!!!

Thank you all for praying. She got a 73 on her chemistry test and the teacher said that was one of the best grades in the class (can you imagine? This teacher was horrible). But she passed, and she doesn't have to go to summer school so our summer is SAVED!!!

What is the difference, Briony in your houses? Insulation and vapour barriers work both ways; keeps cold out and heat!

Years ago, some oldtimers wore long underwear winter and summer. They always said, "What keeps the cold out will also keep the heat out..." Partly true in that case.

It is only 20c here to-day and that seems very cold to me. We have been experiencing temperatures in the 30's. What is your normal temperature for winter months?

Hey all,
It is 81 here at the moment and the forecast high is 86. We have rain forecast again today and the river near my sister's house was six inches over flood stage as of 7:00 this morning. Her house is up on a hill and back from the road so we are hoping it is still okay. It was fine yesterday when she was there working on some of the remodel.
Ann: I am so glad that Lauren passed her test. She should be really happy!

My older daughter is expecting her first baby this August. I got the job of making a cradle....and some think retired pastors don't work...........Here is the proof...lol

Jim - That's beautiful! Our youth pastor did the same thing for his first grandchild - made a beautiful cradle - and he put a plaque on it so that they could fill in the names of all the grandchildren who used it. So far, they're up to 3! When his daughter was expecting (the first 2 grandchildren were from his son), he decided that she needed something special too - so he made her a rocking chair. Both were so lovely! That's going to be a cherished piece of furniture, Jim - and it's been made with so much love.

Well. got some bad news from the Oncologist today.:tear: The Tumor marker went up from 65 to 85!! He said the cancer cells have developed a resistance to the Xeloda. He's recommending another IV chemo called Gemzar. It's not as harsh as alot of others, but still has some side effects.:tonofbricks:
