Some of my BB friends have been asking if we were affected by the huge earthquake we just had yesterday here in Japan, so I thought I would start a thread to inform folks.
Since we live in the central region of the northernmost island of Hokkaido and the earthquake was down on the main island of Honshu, we did not feel it. However, we do have missionary friends who were close enough to the epicenter to feel it at about a 4 on the Richter scale. That would be scary but without much damage at all.
As near as I can tell, there are no missionaries in the area close to the epicenter. However, there are certainly Japanese believers there, so you might want to say a prayer for anyone affected by the earthquake.
When we lived down in the Kanto Plain (Saitama Prefecture, then Yokohama) we often felt earthquakes up to a strength of 5, but we were never in a major one. (Typhoons, now, those are a lot of fun.
) In our current town of Asahikawa, Hokkaido, we never feel earthquakes. We're more likely to get two feet of snow! However, we do have a live volcano I can look at from my office at the church and watch the smoke curl out of it. If you ever hear about a volcano erupting near Asahikawa, pray for us then! :type:
