Reading, Writing, and Sodomy in Richmond Public Education

It only became a "sex scndal" because it was printed in the paper.
What about the many many teachers/school officals that are living together and are not married?
What about all the teachers/school officals that go out every weekend and drink/party?
What about all the teachers/school officals that lie, cheat and steal?
If you have a standard, you have to have it ACROSS the board, without fail, or it's no standard at all.
I don't agree with what he has done, but it's his business, not everyone else's to decide.

Well I think I just have to give my two cents.
I live in a nice southern community. Low crime rate, most of us don't lock our doors when we walk to the neighbors house. Occasionally I leave my front door unlocked when I carry the kids to school, about a twenty minute round trip. Folks here are friendly and will still stop to help a stranded motorist. We have very few homeless because the community does all it can to keep folks off the street. Our small city of 17,000 assimilated 80 families who lost their home in the hurricanes. There is literally a church on every street corner and 90% of the people here identify themselves with one or the other even if they don't attend regularly. This is a very conservative community.....on the surface. The reality is that we are very liberal even though most of us hold to the same value set.
We have a secret in this town. It's not really a secret but something we don't really advertise. Folks will tell you if you ask, but you have to ask or you'll never know for sure. Ready for the secret?
We have a very well tolerated group of homosexuals living and working in our very midst. Now after you've lived here for a while you kind of figure things out. But they don't advertise their lifestyle, they don't promote it and otherwise they live as fine upstanding citizens. They pay their taxes, they give to charities, they don't volunteer to be coaches of all boy teams where they would be the only adult present(that would be asking for trouble), but they do give of their time and money to help the schools where they can. They are doctors, school workers, waiters and whatever else they have to do to make a living.
Some of them even have direct classroom contact with my own children.
Now where do I draw the line? Right at their front door. What they do on their own time is no more my business than what I do on my time is thier business. If they are caught in an illegal activity, I won't even have to voice my opinion about what should be done.
Immoral activity on the otherhand is in the eye of the beholder. We Christians have got to stop expecting the rest of the world to conform to our ideals. God said that things would only get worse before His return.
Now practically, I had a worse time with the teacher who started a blatant affair with the parent of one of her students, eventually caused him to divorce his wife, and then married him and started a new family with him than I have ever had with the homosexual teacher. The woman in question carried on with this man in front of the kids!(stopping just short of physical contact) Even the ones who weren't in her class but were in the same grade knew what was going on. The gay teacher doesn't parade his conquests around the school.
How did I deal with the problem? By answering my child's questions honestly and telling her what I believed and why I believe and showing her in the Bible what God thinks of such behavior. When she asked questions about her gay teacher, I answered them the same way.
We can't protect our children from everything. Instead we must teach them how to deal with non believers in a manner that will present Christ to the world. We simply must quit expecting the world to present Christ to us.
Oh and in our area, the school board is nominated by the mayor and approved by the city council. We want them changed we have to vote out the entire administration.(ain't gonna happen in our good ol' boy small town society)

We had a High school English teacher who was gay in our small southern town. He never did anything publicaly to embarass himself or the school. Fact is anything goes now-a-days unless it is Illegal. But all of this stuff used to be illegal. Soon nothing will be illegal, and we will have placed ourslevs in the trap of not being allowed to have any objections to anything the state makes legal. You are witnessing the end of western civiliazaiton. It is no less than this that is at stake. The state used to recognize a higher standard, no they are the standard. And some of you have welcomed that. America is finished we just don't know it yet. But your kids and their kids will pay a terrible price for it.

Bunyon, the whole world is finished and most just haven't realized it. But I know the end of the story and the Author of it!
Should I fear what my Father has already explained will happen? Or should I rather watch and wait for His return and teach my children to do the same?

Hehehe! My school system gets my two cents worth and then some. I refused to allow the female teacher I described above to teach my children directly(unfortunately total noncontact was impossible, she still had to be in the hallways and do bus duty) and told the principal in private conversation that if he couldn't figure out why for himself, I'd be glad to tell him.
But, I was still nice to her! In my volunteer capicity as RIF coordinator, I still had to have contact with her and I was nice! It does no good to estrange ourselves from those who desperately need the Lord, by throwing their sins back in thier face.

I understand that. But is the statement, "why would his private life matter anyway" the end of it? I understand the practical aspects of the world we currently live in. But I draw the line at blatent and public imorality. To whatever degree I can influence things, which might not be much, I would like to see a world where our teachers are let go for a blatent immorrality such as soliciting for homosexual encounters on simi-public web sites.

Just give me half of the per student expenditure and I will go away... as I suspect a very large majority of parents would- thus yielding a better education system at a dramatically lower cost.
