To The Spanish....

I live in a town were many spanish people live. A huge part of my school is made up of hispanics, and I've met several on visitation. We have a spanish family who are members at my church, whom I love dearly. Well, only them, and my friend Jason speak it fluently. I've had two years of it, and speak it decently to hold conversations and lead someone to Christ, but I intend to study it during my last three years of school, and my four at college. {Hey, after nine years I really ought to be fluant!} We recently started a Spanish class at my church for evangelisum purposes. We pass out Spanish Bibles and tracks. We are learning the Romans road, and phrases to wittness with.
And so I wondered, do any of ya'll have a similar ministry to the Spanish or a specific group of people?
I mean besides your regular visitation, and wittnessing done daily or whenever.

I'm taking a Spanish class now at Delaware Tech, just for fun. I'm pretty bad at it.

How are you doing in your class?

Oh I love it! This is my second year of taking it at school, so the class at church is easier. I'm learning everyday. I actualy had an argument in spanish the other day! My teacher at school said my hair was red in spanish. Well my hair is NOT red, so we went downhill from there! {Hey, maybe I could start posting in spanish?! } Mike the only thing that I have trouble with is verb congigation. But I love it. My teacher said I'm into the second level of fluancy. {I think he said there are four.} So I still have quite a ways to go!
I only hope we will be able to reach more people for Christ.

Start using the Spanish that you now know to speak with the Spanish speaking people in you school, don't be embarassed if you stumble most foreign speking people appreciate it when you attempt to learn their language.

Also all that you learn in school won't make you fluent in the local idiosms.

Praise the Lord for your desire to see the Spanish speking people saved. We have been praying for a Spanish speaking ministry for years and last week we had a Spanish speaking young man saved. You will never guess what we are praying for now.

Me too.

I'm a little intimidated by it pero mi profesor es muy paciente y la clase es mucho entretinedo(?).

One of the things that really bothered me when I started the class was that everybody who saw my books said, "You know, those are advanced books".

But I love it. My teacher said I'm into the second level of fluancy. {I think he said there are four.}

That's great. I hope to join you way up there one day.

This is true. Our instuctor is from Puerto Rico (Mi profesor, Carlos, es de Puerto Rico) and he points out slang words and things like that.

We have a running joke in our class about being stuck in a "tapon" (traffic jam). I think that's just a Puerto Rican thing.

Yeah, brother Ernie, I think it would take me half my life to really learn it all. I still have such a ways to go!
But I really enjoy both classes, at church and at school. Because at school I learn conversational spanish, and at church I learn the basic things needed to wittness. So putting them together works out great.
Mike, you may think verbs are hard {I KNOW they are!} but at least you didn't do what I did {I hope you didn't anyway!} because I was mortified! My spanish teacher asked me one morning how I was doing. I told him "estupida." His eyes got kinda wide, and the otehr spanish speaking kids started laughing something awful! Well I was trying to say I was stupendous in spanish, {estupenda} but it came out as "stupid!" {estupida} So now I'm very cautious about my pronuciation.

Brother Ernie, it's wonderful that someone got saved! And if I can ask, what are ya'll now praying for? {I'm a little dense sometimes, so I didn't understand what you meant}

We have a large population of Spanish speaking people in our area. We are praying for an open door to reach these people for Christ. Some actualy speak very little English so we have been praying that the Lord would open a door to start a work aimed at reaching them for Christ.

Abby, there are lots of Spanish-speakers migrating to the Carolinas and Georgia. I know this because that's where I lived from 1998-2001. I am glad that you have a desire to serve your Lord in this way. There are even an increasing number of Spanish-speakers moving into west Tennessee(where I live) and north Mississippi. The fields are definitely ripe unto harvest.

Don't feel too bad about that. One of the guys in our class tried to ask what page we were on and said something really filthy that I can't even repeat here.

We have quite a few here, too. We're right in between five major cities and many more come here to work at the many racetracks we have here.

I'm not shy about going up to complete strangers and saying, "como se dice..." ("how do you say...").

I've met a bunch of people that way.

Our church just recently took on a Hispanic 'minister and Sunday School teacher'. The first week, their class had 11 adults! I had no idea there were so many Hispanics in our town. The children go right into their respective age groups since they're all mainstreamed in school.
