Thank you for not quoting my whole post. It's much easier to manipulate people's words when you only quote the parts you like, isn't it?

I also like the fact that you completely ignored that I specified "OUR CHURCH" and didn't say anything at all about other churches or individuals choosing to use it as worship.

Let me ask you this: if I believe it was "worldly", then why would I be suggesting that she listen to it? If I believed it was worldly, then why would I be defending the genre of music (presumably also "worldly") it comes from?
You are all over the board! Something can be "too man centered" in one church and be worship...just not in yours? Show a little consistancy, man! Whether you like it or not, something "man centered" IS worldly...not just in your church, but in EVERY church in the world.

So would you rather us listen to a traditional recording of Amazing Grace? Have you ever considered the lyrics of it? How is it any better in this regard?

"Me... I... I... my... my... I... I... me... me... me... my... my... (my body)... I... we... we... we... me... I... I."

How about "I shall not be moved"?

Jesus loves me?

A new name in glory?

A closer walk with thee?

If you're going to whine about this then you've got to wipe out ALOT more than just contemporary stuff.
I think the silence to this post from security officer and johndeerefan speaks volumes.
"He shoots...he scores!"

Well. you ask how I know...

I sing CCM... Just sang a few Casting Crowns songs the other day.
Our choir sings them...

I sing them.. I AM GOING TO BE IN HEAVEN.

You claim CCM is evil.. but you provide no proof...
Tell me.. How is this evil?

He became sin
Who knew no sin
That we might become His Righteousness
He humbled himself and carried the cross

Love so amazing
Love so amazing

Chorus:
Jesus Messiah
Name above all names
Blessed Redeemer
Emmanuel
The rescue for sinners
The ransom from Heaven
Jesus Messiah
Lord of all

His body the bread
His blood the wine
Broken and poured out all for love
The whole earth trembled
And the veil was torn

Love so amazing
Love so amazing, yeah

Chorus:
Jesus Messiah
Name above all names
Blessed Redeemer
Emmanuel
The rescue for sinners
The ransom from Heaven
Jesus Messiah
Lord of all

All our hope is in You
All our hope is in You
All the glory to You, God
The light of the world

Chorus:
Jesus Messiah
Name above all names
Blessed Redeemer
Emmanuel
The rescue for sinners
The ransom from Heaven
Jesus Messiah
Lord of all

If you can say that is evil, then you have no idea what evil is.

OH.. and you DID question my salvation.. you told me to quit calling myself a child of God (Christian)....

YOU don't have that right! For I will sing CCM before the throne of God.. AND YOU CAN'T STOP ME.. no matter how much you protest!

Isn't pointing out that David and his band are going to play CCM is against the rules? Huh?

From one of David's song books:
Sorry you probably won't like it when David breaks out in Dance in Heaven.. but guess what.. .GOD will..

Psalms 150:1-6
(1) Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.
(2) Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.
(3) Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.
(4) Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.
(5) Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.
(6) Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.

I Can Only Imagine lyrics

I can only imagine
What it will be like
When I walk
By your side

I can only imagine
What my eyes will see
When your face
Is before me
I can only imagine

I can only imagine

[Chorus:]
Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine

I can only imagine

I can only imagine
When that day comes
And I find myself
Standing in the Son

I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever
Forever worship You
I can only imagine

I can only imagine

[Chorus]

I can only imagine [x2]

I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever, forever worship you

I can only imagine

It's crowded in worship today
As she slips in
Trying to fade into the faces
The girls' teasing laughter is carrying farther than they know
Farther than they know

CHORUS
But if we are the Body
Why aren't His arms reaching
Why aren't His hands healing
Why aren't His words teaching
And if we are the Body
Why aren't His feet going
Why is His love not showing them there is a way
There is a way

A traveler is far away from home
He sheds his coat
And quietly sinks into the back row
The weight of their judgmental glances tells him that his chances
Are better out on the road

CHORUS
But if we are the Body
Why aren't His arms reaching
Why aren't His hands healing
Why aren't His words teaching
And if we are the Body
Why aren't His feet going
Why is His love not showing them there is a way

Jesus paid much too high a price
For us to pick and choose who should come
And we are the Body of Christ

Chorus (2x)
If we are the body
Why aren't His arms reaching
Why aren't His hands healing
Why aren't His words teaching
And if we are the body
Why aren't His feet going
Why is His love not showing them there is a way

Jesus is the way

Why aren't His arms reaching
Why aren't His hands healing
Why aren't His words teaching
Because we have Christians that would rather complain about other Christians singing to God than actually do something to reach the lost!

God saved people while they were in consentration camps because God can bring good from a evil situation. However, does the good justify the evil? No, to say that would not make sense. Therefore, even though people might be getting saved under CCM does not justify the music. Music has many components (i.e. rhythm, melody, harmony, etc.). It has been proven in a lab study that animals that were introduced to Rock and Roll music. This study was done by a neurobiologist that wanted to disprove the affects of Rock and Roll music, but had to admit that he was wrong when he found out that the culprit of the detrimental effects on the animals was rhythm. (Richard Lipkin, "Jarring Music Takes Toll on Mice," Insight, April 4, 1998, page 58.) Rock and Roll is associated with rebellion. Rebellion is opposite of what God wants from us. Look at Genesis 3 where Adam and Eve rebelled against what God had told them. Sin simply described is rebellion against God. Why would you want to mix Christian lyrics with music that is associated with rebellion? Rebellion is 110% against God's nature. If we are Christians (followers of Christ, literally means Christ's slaves), how could we be associated with rebellion? This would be an oxymoron. You should not be a follower of Christ and be rebelling against Him. Once you are saved, you can still sin (rebel against Christ) but it breaks the fellowship that you have with him. If we break all this down into a formula we would come up with this: rock and roll = rebellion, rebellion= against God's nature, against God's nature = sin, therefore rock and roll = sin (plain and simple). Everything that Rock and Roll stands for (drugs, relationships, drinking, smoking, cussing, being a "hell raiser", rebellion, etc) is against the very nature of God. How can you tell me that there is going to be Rock and Roll, Rap, and other forms of CCM in Heaven?

OK, fish in a barrel time...

Your "rhythm, harmony, melody" thing is from Bill Gothard and/or Frank Garlock (depending on your thread of sources). However, the genesis of this line of thought is Pythagoras, a pagan Greek philosopher and mathematician. Call me traditional, but I'd rather use Scripture as my basis...

And we're back to the beginning: You've made the a priori assumption that music that sounds a certain way to you is "worldly." You've ignored...
  • That your assumption is purely based on personal preference.
  • That your preferences may one day be used against your music.
  • That in centuries past, "worldliness" has been used to deride what we now consider "traditional" (i.e., were you aware that polyphonic (multi-part) singing was considered "vulgar" at one time?)
  • You still haven't given a Scriptural basis for the problem with modern music.
  • You have terms that are defined individually: what you call "CCM," I might call "hymnic," and vice-versa. What makes a song "CCM?" Total subjectivity.
That's just the beginning. Now...you may choose to ignore what I've asked. You may choose to call me names, refer to me as "liberal," or question my salvation. Fine. Do it to me, instead of other folks on the board.

But realize...many of us have come to our conclusions after prayer, searching the Scriptures, and asking God to guide us. If you want to belittle me...realize that I have not made uninformed deicisions, and your problem ultimately isn't with me.

I do not ask you to agree with my tastes. But I do ask that you not belittle the work of God in my life and ministry with your baseless claims.

(it might surprise you to know our songs the youth sang last night...)
  • "More Than Life" (newer song)
  • "Hosanna in the Highest (newer song, but straight-up Scripture)
  • "I Stand Amazed in the Presence" (hymn, 19th-century)
  • How Great is Our God/How Great Thou Art (21st-century chorus/20th-century hymn).
Problems? Then your beef isn't with me.

Also, the "rhythm killing mice and making plants die" is an urban legend. The other one, just to save your typing time, is the missionary who came back from Africa and claimed the drums were similar to those who incanted demons from the Congo.

LOL Tim! I posted that song earlier since we're doing it in church on Sunday. I also posted You are the One by Lincoln Brewster. Never did get comments on those two.

My daughters have grown up with Christian music in the house. They listen to a wide range of styles (although no country - we don't do country in Metro NY) and they're 16 and 19. Rebellion is not something they've ever considered. Why is that? They walk with the Lord, they're missionaries in their schools, even my oldest daughter was attacked for her faith (physically) AND they're in what is typically the most rebellious time of life - yet they are not even in the remotest sense rebellious.

I guess your statement about rock music being rebellious is wrong.

How about Chris Tomlin's Amazing Grace/My chains are gone?

He added words to the original song.

My chains are gone
I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love, Amazing grace

I must start out by saying that I am sorry to hear that your daughters were attacked physically for their faith. I hate to see persecution going on, but we are promised that it will take place. I feel for you and your daughters.

As far as rebellion goes, are you saying that your daughters have never rebelled in their whole life? What about rebelling against God?

This Sunday will also be Cannons by Phil Wickham:

It's falling from the clouds
A strange and lovely sound
I hear it in the thunder and rain
It's ringing in the skies
Like cannons in the night
The music of the universe plays

You are holy great and mighty
The moon and the stars declare who You are
I'm so unworthy, but still You love me
Forever my heart will sing of how great You are

Beautiful and free
Song of Galaxies
It's reaching far beyond the milky way
Lets join in with the sound
C'mon let's sing it loud
As the music of the universe plays

All glory, honor, power is Yours amen
All glory, honor, power is Yours amen
All glory, honor, power is Yours forever amen

Forever by Chris Tomlin:

Send "Forever" Ringtones to Cell

Give thanks to the Lord
Our God and King
His love endures forever
For He is good, He is above all things
His love endures forever
Sing praise, sing praise
With a mighty hand
and outstretched arm
His love endures forever
For the life that's been reborn
His love endures forever
Sing praise, sing praise
Sing praise, sing praise

Yeah
Forever God is faithful
Forever God is strong
Forever God is with us
Forever
Forever

From the rising to the setting sun
His love endures forever
By the grace of God
We will carry on
His love endures forever
Sing praise, sing praise
Sing praise, sing praise

Glorious by Chris Tomlin:

We lift our hands in praise to You
We lift in our hearts in worship to You, Lord
You Lord
We lift our voice to You and sing
Our greatest love will ever be You, Lord

Glorious
Over us
You shall reign
Glorious

There is a King that we adore
With humble hearts we bow before You, Lord
There is a place we long to be
Face to face we long to see You, Lord

Majesty and power
Are Yours alone forever

And we'll also be singing Take my Life and Let It Be - the hymn.
