I think you are splitting hairs. One cannot praise God without worshiping , and one cannot worship God without praising Him for who He is. They are two sides of the same coin, like repentance and faith.

I never know whether to laugh or cry when I see threads like this.

Tell you what... you praise God in your way and I will praise Him in mine; I won't judge you and you don't judge me.

Our church uses a blended style of worship, edging more toward traditional/Southern gospel, but it still works. I love CCM myself, but the body of Christ is not all the same. In the end it is God we are all worshipping and not someone's choice of music.

I did not vote because if I did I would be under criticism from many of you. I did not want to affect the voting at all, but I think that the results are clear.

And your posting was better than just voting? I don't understand. You made your feelings abundantly clear.

I know why he didn't vote and I'm about to tell you.

    Are you ready for it?

    Are you sure?

    Ok..here it is:

    Hebrews 13:8 (King James Version)

"Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever."

Or at least it would be, if only I had actually said anything like that.

Apparently you didn't comprehend what I said.
Yes, one cannot praise God without worshiping Him. But the corollary is not true.
One can worship God without praising Him.

I did understand...but I disagree. Every act of worship is praise to Him.

Disagree all you want, but you are wrong. I have showed you how you are wrong, but you refuse to accept it. I don't praise God when I give, but giving can and should be a part of worship. All prayer is not praise; but all prayer ought to be worship. If you do not believe that then you are sadly mistaken.

I agree, DHK. I think the problem is that he's assuming we're saying that because praise is not the same as worship, it isn't good or isn't something that's worthy of our time. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Praise is wonderful and God is more than worthy of our praise and, indeed, He commands our praise, even going so far to tell us that He inhabits the praise of His people.

Praise isn't bad - Heaven forbid we should believe that! But it is just different and we should understand the difference between worship and praise.

I believe that when we do understand the difference between praise and worship and the place that each has in the life of a believer, both our worship and our praise will be more meaningful.

...so you are not a cheerful giver? All prayer IS praise...it's praise that I have the privilege of coming before the God of all creation and can communicate with Him in an intimate way. I'm afraid it is you that is sadly mistaken. Shall I now say "I have showed you how you are wrong, but you refuse to accept it"?

I missed the verse you used to show him that he was wrong. Could you please refresh my memory?

You must have also missed the verse used by DHK to show I am wrong, too (there wasn't one)? Are you not familiar with the Scripture "God loves a cheerful giver"?

OK. I'll bite: The Bible says that the Lord loves a cheerful giver. How does that make praise and worship the same thing?

Thankfulness is not the same as praise. Generally we thank God for the opportunity to give back a portion of that which he has given us, for all things belong to Him. And we do that cheerfully, not grudgingly or out of necessity.

We have agreed that prayer is worship.
    Look at David's prayer:

Psalms 51:2-5 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Are you going to convince that this worship is really "praise"?
    Do you really believe that?
I don't see any hint of praise in the worship above.

You know, I don't really think he cares that there's a difference between worship and praise. I think he's just looking for an excuse to put people down who don't have the same opinions he has.

I've never given the difference between the two a great deal of thought, but wouldn't all praise be worship while not all worship is praise? Looks to me that praise would be a subset of worship. If not, how can you priase God without it being worship?

Praise and worship are similar, but not the same thing. Worship means honoring and glorifying God for His inherent qualities. Praise means thanking Him and honoring Him for things He has done.
