Most of these pastors don't know scripture themselves.Yes, Donna, I have noticed that small country churches do seem to be weak in the teaching areas.
It may be because they don't want to risk offending anyone and have them leave, or it may be that they just think everything is going O.K. so why change.
Whatever it is, we need to fervently pray for Pastors of the small churches that they will preach and teach the Bible, no matter what the cost.
Serving Him,
Tam
agree. the ones I've known seek to evangelize the to the same people over and over, and never go out away from whast known and comfortable. What I had noticed about some of them is that when it comes to evangelism their view is limited to the town where they already know everyone and assume they know about each person too.
One church I spoke with years ago complained about their former pastor preaching calvinism but when I spoke to them about reaching their town and engaging them in knckong on every door their immediate response was that they alerady knew everyone. Seems like the result would be the same no matter what they believed intellectually because their practice was zero.

Why feel sorry for me when you should be making disciples? Why not join the discussion at http://www.ibiblio.org/bgreek/ and get an education?I am sorry for you you should go back and reread those posts.

There are some excellent preachers in small churches but seldom do they stay long. There are also some terrible students of the word in large churches and they often stay a long time. It is not the size of the church that indicates the discipline of the preacher. He who is faithful in little is faithful in much. That seems like a slam on small town preachers. Do you know any personally? How could you possibly lump them all together!
Nobody has ever accused me of being soft on leaders but I do not see that Jesus and the prophets were either. Could you give an example of what you mean and then compare that to the way Jesus addressed the pharisees and when He turned over the tax gatherers tables?Maybe it's you who needs an education. In manners.

It makes a difference here in small churches, usually small churches have preachers who don't even know how to study the bible, and consider using even a concordance man made and not God lead, can not explain even one basic doctrine biblically. no depth at all. There are some excellent preachers in small churches but seldom do they stay long. There are also some terrible students of the word in large churches and they often stay a long time. It is not the size of the church that indicates the discipline of the preacher. this would only be a good illustration if your saying we're pharisees and tax collectors, unbeleievers.Nobody has ever accused me of being soft on leaders but I do not see that Jesus and the prophets were either.
