Why Barack Obama represents American Catholics better than the pope does.

In truth, though, Obama's pragmatic approach to divisive policy (his notion that we should acknowledge the good faith underlying opposing viewpoints) and his social-justice agenda reflect the views of American Catholic laity much more closely than those vocal bishops and pro-life activists. When Obama meets the pope tomorrow, they'll politely disagree about reproductive freedoms and homosexuality, but Catholics back home won't care, because they know Obama's on their side. In fact, Obama's agenda is closer to their views than even the pope's.

If you read the entire article from Newsweek, it makes a little more sense. In many ways, the author is hitting the American catholics rather hard in the fact that they have strayed from church teachings -- especially regarding abortion, homosexuality and other social issue -- where the laity is much more liberal than the church leadership.

Let's face facts, most Liturgical Christian Denominations are rather Liberal.

I haven't posted in ages but I couldn't let such generalization go unchallenged. With the exception of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and some of the so called European State "Lutheran" Churches, the various branches of the Lutheran Church all of whom have a rich liturgical tradition are very conservative and confessional in theology. Even with in the Anglican communion there is a very large portion of the denomination that is very conservative theologically speaking.

Speaking towards the article. It is nothing less than the height of stupidity, that illustrates the complete lack of theological sophistication of the general public. It is at best a blatant example of how postmodern thought influences how people view such things as truth.
