I have not read all the replies to the original post but I did read a few.

I agree that a tattoo may not be the best idea because it can in fact be a stumbling block to others and didn't Paul speak of this the to Corinthians? The meat they were eating was not the issue but the stumbling block factor was.

To us Lev 19:28 to dogmatically oppose tattoos is foolish though. I wonder if those whose do this also live out verse 26. IF you eat your steak rare you are sinning. What about verse 27.... ARe you cutting the sides of you hair and or trimming your beards? If verse 28 is your standard for tattoos then verse 19 must be your standard for dress....so take off those cotton/polyester polos.

So what are the reasons for tattoos?

1. To decorate the FLESH and that dishonors God

2. To impress your buddies while in a drunken stupor

3. To show a side of a female to indicate her willingness to hint towards her being immoral

4. To make markings for the dead

All the above indicate deadness

Why not just sick to the OP and tell us what tattos are made for, if they are not for the dead, then what are they for?????

I personally know people that have tatoos for very significant events in their life. NONE of which are dead people. In fact most of them are personal triumphs.

Actually it is an Egyptian practice to pierce the ears, eyelets (eyebrows) and the nose. The only time Israel was to have a piercing was really a boring through by an awy just as Aaron said.

Either way, the Egyptian was a slave to false gods and the Israelite or the stranger was a slave.

I don't have any, don't want any and see no need for any. We had a man in church one time sitting right in front of me in shorts and a short sleeved shirt who was so covered with tattoos that I had all I could do not to stare at them. His arms and legs were covered with them. I usually sit in the third row from the front, and so he was in the second row from the front--apparently to be sure that he was noticed.

An obscure atattoo that no one can see when you're fully dressed is one thing, but being covered head to toe with them is ridiculous.

Does that mean in your mind that he is unsaved? That he has no right to come into YOUR church?

If OT Leviticus 19 makes no application to today---then it stands to reason that whats written in Exodus 20 makes no application to today

As for your last, 'example', try telling the True Judge why you thought His Grace was not sufficient.
Tattoos are nothing. They have no bearing on our salvation. You don't like them? Don't get one. But don't try telling others that they are offending God with one.
