Jews and Nazis? Brother, Were talking about your dumb soldier..... But, I can't use the Bible.....
it's phrases like these that indicate a stick in the mud. You attack soldiers, I have 3 relatives in the middle east who all have tattoos. I resent you calling soldiers "dumb". Maybe we need you in Marjah right now telling them just how dumb they are?

I have not read all the replies to the original post but I did read a few.

I agree that a tattoo may not be the best idea because it can in fact be a stumbling block to others and didn't Paul speak of this the to Corinthians? The meat they were eating was not the issue but the stumbling block factor was.

To us Lev 19:28 to dogmatically oppose tattoos is foolish though. I wonder if those whose do this also live out verse 26. IF you eat your steak rare you are sinning. What about verse 27.... ARe you cutting the sides of you hair and or trimming your beards? If verse 28 is your standard for tattoos then verse 19 must be your standard for dress....so take off those cotton/polyester polos.

Paul you have been proven wrong so now you turn to childish insults. You twist my words to cover up your inadequate exegesis of scripture. But, that's OK. I forgive you.

Your quote snipping is dishonest and your attacks that have to be edited show your weak position. You need to relax it just is not worth all your anx.

So what are the reasons for tattoos?

1. To decorate the FLESH and that dishonors God

2. To impress your buddies while in a drunken stupor

3. To show a side of a female to indicate her willingness to hint towards her being immoral

4. To make markings for the dead

All the above indicate deadness

Since you see to be so willing to forgive me, just what sin is it you're accusing me of making?

My name isn't "Bub" and your post was edited too, so your objection is now seen as hypocritical.

Why not just sick to the OP and tell us what tattos are made for, if they are not for the dead, then what are they for?????

Mercy me!

Some tatoos are purty!!! :tongue3:

And some could be practical...

Imagine if a man had a tattoo of a ring under his wedding ring.. he couldn't slip it off and go cheat!..

If we put our minds to it.. I am sure we can come up with some good ones.

I personally know people that have tatoos for very significant events in their life. NONE of which are dead people. In fact most of them are personal triumphs.

You know, the only occassion in which a (publicly visible) cutting in the flesh was permitted was when a man chose to spend the rest of his life as the slave of another. He was to pierce his ear with an awl.

All right, which one would you consider tat-worthy?

Whewww. I guess I can quit worrying about defiling myself by having pierced ears!

Actually it is an Egyptian practice to pierce the ears, eyelets (eyebrows) and the nose. The only time Israel was to have a piercing was really a boring through by an awy just as Aaron said.

Either way, the Egyptian was a slave to false gods and the Israelite or the stranger was a slave.

I don't have any, don't want any and see no need for any. We had a man in church one time sitting right in front of me in shorts and a short sleeved shirt who was so covered with tattoos that I had all I could do not to stare at them. His arms and legs were covered with them. I usually sit in the third row from the front, and so he was in the second row from the front--apparently to be sure that he was noticed.

An obscure atattoo that no one can see when you're fully dressed is one thing, but being covered head to toe with them is ridiculous.

Does that mean in your mind that he is unsaved? That he has no right to come into YOUR church?
Just asking.

Liberty in Christ is not license to disobey Scripture

If OT Leviticus 19 makes no application to today---then it stands to reason that whats written in Exodus 20 makes no application to today

If I go out and rob a bank---I'm not going to be able to tell the judge--"Well, sir----my liberty in Christ allowed me to do that!! I'm no longer under OT law that says Thou shalt not steal!!"

So what are you?
Jewish?
Or Christian?
God says we are under His Grace.
You say we are under the law, i.e. Leviticus.
You saying we are both?
As for your last, 'example', try telling the True Judge why you thought His Grace was not sufficient.
Tattoos are nothing. They have no bearing on our salvation. You don't like them? Don't get one. But don't try telling others that they are offending God with one.
Cod brain.
