Ezekiel and Mathew

I ran across this interesting parallel between Ezekiel 18: 7 and Matthew 25:35-36. This is another example of the Father and Son agreeing on how we should treat people, IMHO.

Ezekiel 18:7 He does not oppress anyone,
but returns what he took in pledge for a loan.
He does not commit robbery
but gives his food to the hungry
and provides clothing for the naked

Matthew 25:35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

I thought this parallel quite interesting and wondered how many preachers, when preaching this portion of Matthew ties it to Ezekiel or know of the similarity of the verses?

Well, you can find many scriptures like this. Job told how he never failed to help the poor, widows, and fatherless.

Job 29:12 Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.
13 The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.

Job 31:16 If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;
17 Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;

Job 31:19 If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;
20 If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;
21 If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:
22 Then let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.

I think you see here that it was Job himself who helped the poor, widows, and orphans, and not govenment.

In James it tells Christians to help the poor, widows, and orphans.

James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

The Psalms are full of verses that say to help the poor, widows, and orphans.
