It's a $100 fine for refusing to answer, a $500 fine for giving false information, and a $5000 fine and one year in prison for giving false answers with intent to cause an incorrect enumeration.
100 per question or 100 to refuse to reply? Still they sure are getting into personal "private" lives and asking alot of personal questions.

You want personal? Just wait until you get the "American Community Survey". Now that one is personal! I got to fill it out this year and it wanted everything from educational acheivements to income info.

Haven't gotten it yet, but the only question I plan to answer is how many people currently live in our home. The rest I'm not going to answer.
What business is it of the government what race we are?
What business is it of the government to ask about our mortgage?
I don't care about giving them my name, address, and phone number, or even skin color. No, it isn't the government's business, but this info is easily available on the internet and even printed on our church bulletin since dh is a pastor. (well, except for skin color)
What I don't appreciate is being asked how many toilets are in my house and whether or not we rent, own, or live here without paying rent. If they need to know this, they should ask it separately without identifying my name and address. What's next? How many guns you own? How many and what kind of medications do you take?

That's exactly right. There is no Constitutional reason the government should know how many guns we own, but that doesn't stop them from trying.
Likewise, I don't want them knowing what medications we take because when they take over healthcare, that could lead to them rationing care that we need.

B) My mortgage is a public record down to the courthouse (yours is too!)
C)Even the American community survey didn't ask me about toliets
D)The gov already knows how much money I make, I pay taxes. my problem with this is why spend the money to ask me again?!

F)Renters are more likely to be mobile, rather than a fixed resident. That is why they ask. Renters are also more likely to make less money than home-owners.
G) The only question that really bugs me is race. In this day and age, we shouldn't be handing out money based on race. But with the history of this country, I can understand why they ask and why they appropriate funds on that basis.

A few years ago, the census taker asked me this in person! I didn't even fill out a form. He just asked questions and wrote down my answers. I didn't like that. I should have been able to see the form myself.
What's Uncle Sam gonna do, come use my house as a rest area since I have indoor plumbing?
Oops. Wait a minute. I forgot, this is WV and they probably wanted to know if we have plumbing here yet.:tongue3:

2) since the government owns the mortgage companies they need to know what their ROI will be.

Constitutional or not they need to determine how disadvantage our military will be when they attempt to institute Martial law over the nation when the party in power begins to loose power.

We laugh, but it wasn't to long ago that some folks around my parts didn't have indoor plumbing.
You'll be happy to know that this question isnt' a part of this year's census, though! LOL I just filled mine out. Names, ages/b'days, race and whether you rent, own or own with a mortgage. That was it. So if you get asked about sumptin' different, make the asker show you why you must answer.
I think really it's all public information really, it's easy to find out my phone number, it's in the book, the county freely gives out the information on who owns my house, my birthday is known by many and isn't private information, anyone can see how many live in my house, basically I didn't answer any questiosn that aren't already public information, no one asked for my social security number, or bank account number, or how much rent we pay, or anything that isn't public information.

After looking over the RACE question, where it seems they equate some 'race' with origin ....
I'm going down to "other" and write in American.
Yes, I'll give them my phone number..... and if they call, I'll give them the same answer.
If those in government aren't capable of representing the people based upon our citizenship in the country..... then they aren't capable of indiscrimination.
I will do what seems right to stop their dividing me from my countrymen by such archaic inventions as 'race'.

It's not about government. It's about large corporations being better able to target consumer "groups".
This is what you get from a corporate fascist state.

Granted if you don't fill out personal info, name, etc or sign it I don't know how they could enforce fines or such. Also, with the nature of apartment living in cities, how are they going to enforce such a silly rule.
Don't forget the Census is a Constitutional act of the government. Of course it seems all they need is where you live, how many people live in your home, and some basic demographic info. Not sure how we'll answer all the questions.
Some of the info on what seems to be secondary questions is important. For instance how many toilets? Well that might have something to do with expanding our water resources...or a secret way for the black ops people to invade our home...really tiny black ops people...
But really demographic info, your race, household income, etc is important stuff for understanding our national composition. I predict there will be surprising insight about how our nation is changing. More Muslims than we expect probably.

While not very likely, technically you could be prosecuted.
"In Article I, Section 2, the Constitution says that an “Enumeration” must be conducted every ten years “in such Manner as [Congress] shall by Law direct.” Congress has directed through a federal law that anyone who “refuses or willfully neglects…to answer, to the best of his knowledge, any of the questions” on the Census form can be fined $100 (13 U.S.C. § 221). If you deliberately give a false answer, you can be fined up to $500."

My question is why are people paranoid about giving the government your names, birth date, and race? What harm could possibly come to you for doing so?
