Speed Traps

Why not? I do not see it as taking advantage of speeders and law abiding citizens have nothing to fear.

When I was a kid there were towns in the South that had a reputation for laying in wait for out-of-town folk. The rumor was it helped balance the towns budget and keep the police in beer. Don't know if this was true or not.

 

Let's just let freedom handle it...

Citizens are free to share where the traps are;
police are free to move the traps.

I don't speed, so I don't care.

Salty, did you ever get one of those tickets in the mail in Germany? I had this lime green BMW 1502 that was way too photogenic. madre and I were heading to Giessen one afternoon and I got pulled over for doing 120 kph in a 75. Had to pay the DM40 fine on the spot. The ones they mailed to you were a lot more. I had an NSU Prinz that was so slow it wasn't allowed on the Autobahn.

I make a living by driving. I cannot afford to get points on my license so I am careful about my speed. Driving for a living also affords you the opportunity to observe a lot of other drivers. I just have one thing to say; HANG UP AND DRIVE!

...but that would be a topic for another thread. Here's another observation: most people do not drive half as well as they think they do. Speed amplifies their shortcomings. I just have one more thing to say; HANG UP, SLOW DOWN AND DRIVE!

 

Speed traps when fairly implemented are not a problem. The problem is when law enforcement tries to create a situation where a person unfamiliar with an area will fall victim to rapid speed reductions. Such is the case of a couple of small towns here in FL. As you come into the town (via the highway), they drop the speed from 55 to 45 to 35 and I believe even down to 30 in some cases. This is done very rapidly and obviously done with the intent to catch people that may miss one of the speed limit signs.

 

120 is really fast on cobblestone. :laugh: The BMW was the quickest car I drove over there but our Mercedes- 280S was the fastest. It would do 240 kph with the sunroof closed (215 with it open). CAUTION: Quick math lesson:

Take the speed in kilometers per hour (240) multiply it by .62 That should give you around 148 miles per hour. That car would run at speed all day long. Never once got a ticket in it but that little BMW was a ticket waiting to happen.... I earned every one I got in that car. It doesn't matter how I got them. They used traffic cameras a lot in Germany. If I wanted to reduce the number of tickets I got I could have used the pedal in the middle instead of always being on the gas.

I believe that Big Brother should initiate any occasion against the brotherhood that haunt the Chestnut tree Cafe. Only dissidents would persue a corse of action against the safety and intent of Oceania. This is a perfect example of crimethink and of all crimethinkers. Speed traps are really brotherhood speak for crimestop. once caught at a speed trap for disobeying the Oceanic laws for travel the crimethinker should be sent to Joy Camp culminating in a visit to room 101 where they become an unperson for their ungood. You really should pay attention to the teledep.

 

If I can't speed, I don't want anyone else to do it. :laugh: I always seem to get caught while others get away with it. Actually, I haven't had a speeding ticket since 1979. I've had people cross a double yellow line to go around me even though I was 5 miles over the speed limit. I've been tailgated in a residential area even though (again) I was 5 miles over the speed limit.

One time when a woman tailgated me in a residential area, I slammed on my brakes and then gunned it before she could hit me. She backed way off after than.

I HATE being tailgated since I NEVER drive UNDER the speed limit. I usually do about 5 miles over. If that isn't good enough for them, they can go around if possible. Tailgating me only causes me to either hit my brakes or slow down to irritate them more. Of course, they might be one of those people who carry a gun in the car and aren't afraid to use it.

I've had people flip their middle finger at me--indicating either their age or their IQ-- I haven't figured out which.

You don't speed in our small town. It's not a speed trap though, as most people know this. Each of the speed limit signs explicitly state "Strictly Enforced" and they aren't kidding. Even the police web site states "one of the priorities the community has identified is reducing the amount of speeding within the residential areas." It's a good thing too, as many motorists like to zip through the residential areas to avoid the traffic on the main thoroughfares.

 

No safe driver would pull such a boneheaded stunt. Would have served you right if she drove right up your....uh....differential.
