Billionaire's Family Keeps the Fortune

How is it greed? Rather, I think it's called jealousy. The government has no right to any of that money. Neither do you. The government didn't earn it and neither did you. You are simply envious of that which isn't yours. It's called wealthy envy and it's shameful.

Since I am not getting ANY of the money, how is it GREED on my part?

BTW, taxes are not only a part of life, they are to be obeyed according to scripture.

You want to steal it in the name of government. What's the difference?

What you are advocating is not a tax. It's stealing.

How is it greed - very simple - liberals want the govt to provide virtually everything for the population - but since it costs money to provide those services - the govt must steal from the rich - and thus when you benefit from those extra services - which many liberals seem to think they are entitled to - that my friend is greed.

...and scripture says obey (the govt)
I am so glad that you agree that if the US Army was to send you a draft notice - you would report for duty and possibly go into a combat zone...

So, benefits like retirement for soldiers is "liberals want(ing) the govt to provide virtually everything...?"

Yes, I would go. I registered for the draft when I turned 18, but my number was too hight and I was not drafted.

Yup. Especially since there's probably 100 times the amount of welfare bums, as compared to veterans. You guys have fixed our system so that miss unwed 6 kid by 5 fathers welfare queen gets better care than our combat vets.

There is no "would go". You either went, or you didn't.

Maybe I wasn't clear. When I turned 18 years old, I registered for the draft. They did not call everyone who registered for service. I was never called to report for military service. If they had called me, I would have reported.

>Liberals should be required to pay higher taxes just so they put their money where their mouth is.

I don't think tax evasion is higher among liberals. Change the tax law and liberals will live with it.

Let's see- Tim Geithner, Tom Daschle, Marion Berry, Christopher Dodd, Charles Rangel....

Nope, doesn't pass the smell test.

Maybe you are correct. I guess I should feel sorry for his poor family. I know that half of 9 billion would only leaves them only 4.5 billion. I just don't see how they would make it!

It's not a question of how much money they have, it's a question of whether the government has the right to steal money from people just because they died. The inheritance tax is downright criminal. They don't just take money from the ultra-rich, in case you didn't know. They also tax property very heavily. It's ridiculous. They kill middle class folks on inheritance tax all the time.

Just so we are keeping score: the government taxed that money when you made it. They tax it when you spend it. If you save it, they'll tax it when you die. What is fair about that? What is ethical about that? The tax they charged me when I made it should have been more than enough.

I'm glad someone brought up the scripture card. When you can't win an argument with a Christian, just insinuate that you are in line with scripture. Jesus never justified taxes, or a tax system. He told us to pay our taxes, which is what I do. He never said I couldn't call taxes like the inheritance tax exactly what they are - the government stealing money from its citizens.

You can call them what you want, as long as you pay them!

Have read that the OT required offerings added up to 30%.

The Passover requirements were the first farm support program.

So you equate giving to God, which was something that was ultimately up to the individual, with the requirement of paying taxes to the secular government?

It is plain old wrong. I consider it theft too.
I consider property tax wrong in and of itself. You either own something or you don't. If the government can come and take your home if you fail to pay taxes on it from the money you earn and already had taxed, you don't really own it. The government does...you're just renting it from them as long as you can afford to. Half the time, you can't even do what you want with this property you "own" unless you get permission. If they decide your property needs a road or power grid, they can take it from you even if you are paid up.
That's not ownership. Unless you have a homestead, you don't really own property in the USA anymore.

Yes. The priesthood was the government at that time. It also provided for the general welfare.

The priesthood wasn't the government.

Furthermore, people weren't required to bring offerings to the priests under penalty by the government. It was a free will offering, something that came from the heart. Contrast that to today when our government forces its citizens under penalty of law to "give" their hard earned money to the state and federal government. That is not giving, that is taking.

Anything in this or the rest of the book sound voluntary?

Exodus 13

Consecration of the Firstborn

1 The LORD said to Moses, 2 "Consecrate to me every firstborn male. The first offspring of every womb among the Israelites belongs to me, whether man or animal."
3 Then Moses said to the people, "Commemorate this day, the day you came out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery, because the LORD brought you out of it with a mighty hand. Eat nothing containing yeast. 4 Today, in the month of Abib, you are leaving. 5 When the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Hivites and Jebusites—the land he swore to your forefathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey—you are to observe this ceremony in this month: 6 For seven days eat bread made without yeast and on the seventh day hold a festival to the LORD. 7 Eat unleavened bread during those seven days; nothing with yeast in it is to be seen among you, nor shall any yeast be seen anywhere within your borders. 8 On that day tell your son, 'I do this because of what the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.' 9 This observance will be for you like a sign on your hand and a reminder on your forehead that the law of the LORD is to be on your lips. For the LORD brought you out of Egypt with his mighty hand. 10 You must keep this ordinance at the appointed time year after year.

11 "After the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites and gives it to you, as he promised on oath to you and your forefathers, 12 you are to give over to the LORD the first offspring of every womb. All the firstborn males of your livestock belong to the LORD. 13 Redeem with a lamb every firstborn donkey, but if you do not redeem it, break its neck. Redeem every firstborn among your sons.
