23 minutes in Hell

To me it's just as bad as 90 minutes in Heaven. Is God's word insufficient to warn us of the damnation of the ungodly? Do we need a better testimony than Jesus who rose from the dead to verify the reality of the hereafter?

Have you ever heard of Bill Wiest.

What do you think of his experience?

He is just one of many that claim to have come back from hell. What I find interesting is they come back and try to match the scriptures up to their experiences, a similar thing happened in 2003 a lady did that but she came back saying she had one on one conversations with God and angels..etc There was another fella Rick Joyner who claimed to have ascended to heaven and saw God the father with his own eyes, he comes back with false doctrines that he continues to spread throughout the charismatic church world, he made a bit of money from his 2 books he wrote about his ascendency.

As far as I'm concerned the bible says everything I need to know.

Luke 16:29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
16:30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
16:31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

As a doctor Maurice Rawlings became a Christian by seeing what happened to people after a near death experience. He interviewed those people and found that a number of them had what he called a hell experience rather than a heaven experience. Rawlings wrote the bookTo Hell and Back: Life After Death Startling New Evidence. It is an excellent book.

Bill was saved at 16 and was taken to hell for 23 minutes AS a christian, according to his testimony. It was NOT a near death experience, he compares his experience to Paul's of going to the 3rd heaven.

Here is another site I just googled -

It appears that God gave this man Bill Wiese a taste of what hell is really like in order for him to share it with us. And, for only $29.95 he is willing to share this experience with anyone (who will pay for it).

He is just another con man looking to make money off gullible folk who will fall for his scam!

If that is true then the flames of hell are figurative and not an actual fiery (burning) hell.

I notice that there is more than a few lines of dialogue between Bill and God throughout the out of body experience of his. One interesting thing is God told him to bind and cast out demons; go tell people that God is returning very very soon; God told him that He doesn't want to send anyone to hell. Tell them about hell...

I always get the picture with testimonies like these is it just doesn't consistantly line up with scripture, another thing is the tendancy to relay something they claim God says according to their own doctrinal viewpoint, eg God saying He doesn't want to send anyone to hell, that they have authority to cast out and/or bind demons.

Demons are on the rise in America. I have seen it a few times myself in the church. We often think of it in other countries but it here too. I have seen it in the world and church.

It amazes me how many pastors read books written by the lastest guru but fail to take that same amount of time in serious study. That is on the road of laziness and lack of discipline.

Exactly, thank you. He is one of those looking to make merchandise of God's people. Paul was taken up into the third heaven, and he didn't even want to glory in that. In fact, Paul said he saw things not lawful for him to utter, which I've taken to mean he can't even find the words to describe what he saw. Paul wrote his experience down and gave it away for free. Same thing with John and Revelation.

Beware of men seeking to make money from God's people.

"With electrified senses, Bill Wiese experienced the searing flames of hell, total isolation, a putrid, breathtaking stench, deafening screams of agony, terrorizing demons, and finally, the strong hand of God lifting him out of the pit." (from: http://www.soulchoiceministries.org/)

I would submit that his claims reflect a popular, but unBiblical view of hell. Why? The only thing we are told about the current abode of the lost (Hades) is that there is fire there (a flame - Luke 16:24). Beyond that, we are told nothing. We read nothing of "screams of agony" or a "stench" when it comes to hades. We are, however, told that those things will be in the eternal lake of fire which is still in the future (Matt 25:30, 46, Rev 20:11-15, etc). As for "terrorizing demons", we read nothing about that in the New Testament. Demons, and Satan, are sent to hell to be punished not to punish (Matt. 25:41, 2 Pet 2:4, Jude 6, etc). The idea that demons terrorize or torture those in hell is a myth from the middle ages and not a Biblical reality. In my opinion, Bill Wiese did not die and spend 23 minutes in hell. Maybe he had a bad dream. I have dreamed about hell before but I don't claim to have been there (I have also dreamed of heaven). Wiese is profiting off people's curiosity ($29.95). The fact is that God has given us all we need to know and can know about hell. You want to know what hell will be like? Read the Bible. You want to know what heaven will be like? Read the Bible. If the answer is not there the answer has not be revealed. Period.

Wiese's book is based on his experience which is, most likely, not real. To base anything on his book is foolishness. I believe in sola scriptura. My trust is in the Word that God has given us. When it comes to Christian books I only read those that are based on clear teaching of God's Word. I'm not going to give money to someone who wants me to believe what they have to say based on their personal experience and not Scripture.

Just a clarification - he never said he died - rather he was in some kind of comma - but "absent from the body"

Having read through his experience it seems obvious to me that he had an out of body experience if not a very real dream. Martin is correct; which seems that Bill's story does not consistently line up with scripture and to have one on one conversations with God, is a good way to fool people into taking a mans word over the authority of scripture.

No one has gone to the lake of fire which shows Bill's experience to be false. He was claiming God said people would spent eternity in THAT place, hardly, since he could not of had a vision or could not have been taken to the lake of fire.

The sad thing is, christians believe these stories because they want to look for more evidence of their faith, for solid proof, they want to believe that God has selected such men as to be equal to an apostle with equal authority that have current ongoing revelations... They end up believing anything and everything, very sad. They are willing to pay for it, sit and listen to it, lifting up these men as some kind of holy guru's chosen by God and they are willing to give good money to make this guy profit well from his making merchandise of his so claimed God sent experience.

Let me clarify one item. I am not totally convinced of the actually. I did listen to him as he was being interview on the radio. If anything, he totally believes he actually went thru said experience. I do not know the man personally or in any other capacity, other than what I heard on the radio.

From his interview he does seem very knowledgeable about a broad area of theology - and not just only about hell.

Yes, I am still a skeptic, but this has been a very interesting discussion

I can't see how he can justify that what he saw was actually the eternal lake of fire (which is future tense), that God would take him there and that he would come back with said instructions to warn people about hell. As many have already said, we have the bible, isn't that good enough? If people aren't going to believe the bible why would this mans word carry more authority? Makes no sense that God would do that.

By the way, further proof this is just a scam:

When Paul was caught up into the third heaven, he didn't know whether he was in or out of the body. This guy claims to know he was out of the body.

Part of Bill's sermon on the book is that when he was returning from hell, he went into space, re-entered the atmosphere and eventually could see his own body as his spirit went back into his body. I read it myself but that's what he says.

And I say that if Paul, who was gifted with more knowledge of spiritual things than any man alive today, didn't know if he was caught up into heaven in or out of the body, I have a hard time believing this man, who claims to have gone to hell, knows he was out of the body.
