I'd say you are having trouble posting pictures on here due to size?

When you try to upload, and it fails, it tells you as to why, and what size they have to be to upload them on here. Pay attention to the dialogue box when trying to upload here as it tells you your size limits. Exceeding these equals failure.

Somewhere in the 640 KB range I think. C-net has a re-sizing program that is free. I have not used it, but I know others who have used it.

I was limited to uploading one picture that fit of all the pics I have.

Posting pictures is rather easy. First, you have to host that picture somewhere like photobucket, flickr, etc., or if they are on your own computer, you must re-size to an acceptable value as suggested above. I've found that it is easiest to host pictures on-line.

Then, copy the URL for the picture, and click the image icon at the top of the thread window. Paste in the URL, and click okay.

The image will paste into the thread with "tags" on each end of the url that look like this: the closing tag will have an / between the bracket and the I to signify a closed html tag.

I upload all my pics to Photobucket then either resize them there so I can just post the picture (remember, it has to be pretty small to post the actual picture on the site) or else I'll post the link to the pic if it's too big.

To post a picture here if it's hosted somewhere else like Photobucket, you grab the link to the direct picture then post it here with

code to end it. When you use those correctly, they should put your picture right in here.

If a pic is too big I will use the thumbnail that they offer which is also a link, like this:

Click the thumbnail for the full size picture.

The code for that ^^^ looks like this (I used [noparse][noparse][/noparse][/noparse] tags so you could see it):

(Since the image is 1280 x 960 I will noparse it as well.)

If you use Firefox as your browser, be sure to install the BBCodeXtra extension. It gives you all kinds of BBCodes (the codes in the brackets that make images show up, text bold or italics, etc.) in your right click menus. I post using the Quick Post text box and can still use all the bells and whistles without having to go to the full editor. I feel crippled when I post from somewhere besides my own computer and have to do without it.

I tried using the "Manage Attachments" feature instead, but that just brought up:

You would have to upload the pictures from your computer to a picture hosting site. I detailed that in my post above.

Photobucket, Flickr, Imagestation, and others (including some forums) allow free picture hosting. Even Facebook will hold some photos, but they tend to take liberties with your pictures (adding tags, etc.).

To upload to the forum directly from your computer look at the tools below the thread window (the place were we type our messages).

You will see a button below that says "Manage Attachments." If you click that button, you will see a new window open that will let you upload from your computer directly to a thread.

The allowed file size is also included below the place where you can upload. Pictures uploaded can only be 620 X 280 pixels (about 3 X 6" saved to screen resolution, about 75 DPI) if uploaded directly. Pictures would have to be resized to that dimension on your PC before uploading. And, a word to the wise, before resizing pictures, save them under a new name, otherwise you will loose the original picture! Resize the copy.

I have just tried it again, with an image in gif format, width 156 pixels, height 200 pixels, file size 5.27KB, so well within the limits, but the same thing happened.

I think I had better find out a bit more about PhotoBucket etc. :laugh:

Clicking on "Manage Attachments" *should* (I say, should) have brought up a new window.

In this new window, you should see a table that lists file sizes for different types of image files.

Above that table are two lines:
Upload file from your computer
Upload file from a URL

If you're uploading from your computer, click on the Browse button to find your file; once you've selected your file, it should return you to the window. Your file should be listed before the "Browse" button; now you click on "Upload" on the right.

If you're uploading from a web site, you can either type in the URL where the picture is; or you can right-click on the picture, select "Properties," highlight the location of the picture; right-click again and choose "Copy." Close the Properties window, and then paste into the window for "Upload from a URL." Then click on Upload.

I'd encourage you to do just that. The free version works well, though you will have to sit through a few advertisements every time you use the site.

It has built in forum links -- you can select a picture and copy the link, which will paste into the forum thread ready to use.

OK, have got as far as taking the pic and uploading it to photobucket. I have got something that says Direct link - am asuming that I copy and paste that ....?
