Hubby and I were discussing the parable of the soils (the 4 soils). Of course there is an application for that parable for the unsaved but is there one for those who are already saved as well? Is it only a parable for the unsaved?

Well it lets us know that most of those who either hear or profess will not come full circle and be saved. Also it can be a gage to examine our lives if there is doubt.

Every part of the soil parable is applicable for the believer. There are many believers who are hard soil in part and fertile soil in part. If that were not the case then everyone would be perfectly obedient all the time.

That is interesting since there was no hard soil/fertile soil parable mentioned by the Lord. Perhaps it just slipped His mind?

The roadway would have been packed and hard (Mk. 4:4). The fertile soil would have been the good soil (Mk. 4:8). Unless you are thinking about another parable.

No I am just saying that there is no hard/fertile soul mentioned. The hard soil was hard hearts. The fertile soil was prepared hearts. The first remain lost, the later become saved. It is not about believers who are not mature.

The context of that parable is not about salvation. The parable is explained starting with verse 13.

Where did he ever state that?

I really don't think I am going to be able to explain this to you but I will try. The whole chapter of matt 13 is parables. When He was asked why he spoke to the multitude in parables (by the way they were lost) He tells them because it ws not given to them to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the disciples it was so he explained the parables to them. Also The Lord gave one about tares. All the parables in that discourse are about the same thing. The lost are blind, cannot hear, need to be found (saved). It is about salvation.

It is amazing how many have never read the book at http://www.amazon.com/dp/0849932343/?tag=baptis04-20

It is amazing how many do things with scripture and in church, but would never consider that in their profession.

I will tell you what is amazing. It is amazing that anyone who claims to know Christ and can read the bible and not see what it is saying. Who needs some book that a man wrote when they have the word of God?

Claims to know? Casting doubt on the salvation of another? Why?

Bro, you have serious deficiencies within the area of Biblical interpretation.

His showing you the book was for illustrative purposes only, that you cannot even see that is telltale.

He never intended that it supplanted Scripture, was Scripture, transcended Scripture, is the Word...he simply meant for the title of the Book to make a statememt to you...lol.

I have a saying. If someone writes something that is biblically false i don't want the book. I have the bible. if someone writes something that is biblically true, I don't need it, i have the bible.

Yep. You won't listen to anyone. Wonder what Proverbs says about a person who cannot receive instruction, and who won't listen to reason, and refuses correction, i.e. you?

Interrupting this argument to try to answer... :tongue3:

Maybe the idea of different fruit yields in v. 8 has to do with saved people. God gives the increase and some believers are more fruitful than others. Now why some are more fruitful can be of an interesting conversation.

That is what i get for trying to be witty. Good response, I have no come back at the moment.
Jesus explained the parables. What more do you need? You are trying to look at the ants on the ground of the forest when you should be looking at the forest. The forest is the parable and what it meant, not who is saved and who is not. Any man who lives out what Jesus taught is a believer. The others are questionable.

So which soil represents the believer and unbeliever? There are four soils.

The point of the parable is be a reproducing disciple who lives for Jesus, nothing more and nothing less.
