What do you folks know about this movement Sovereign Grace Ministries I hear different reports but one pastor just got done telling me they are a wonderful group of Christ-loving, Bible-saturated, gospel-driven, calvinistic, non-cessationists (charismatics) - an example of the new wave of young doctrines of grace lovers - who cross traditional boundaries

The last line is his. I on the other hand remain skeptical.
I am a Reformed Believer myself who maintains that Scripture never anywhere says that spiritual gifts from the Holy Spirit were only temporary so I am also a non-cessationist however I am not a charismatic & if someone was to start up in that tongues thing, I would probably walk out. Im more of the Martyn Lloyd-Jones type who insists that everything be filtered through Scripture....no hocus pocus.

SGM is one of the better ministries out there. I am extremely impressed by their church planting endeavours, humility, and focus on expository preaching married with good theology. Yes, there are areas I disagree with them on, but I highly respect them.

In my opinion, they are producing the best worship music today in Christianity (though, there are a couple of others out there doing a great job). They make good, easy to sing songs based upon deep theology. The church I just left used a lot of SGM music and we use a lot for our family worship.

Here is the About Us webpage at their website.

I read their confession of faith and it seems they are a reformed Baptist denomination basically with charismatic flavoring.

There are online estimations that there are seven new different denominations formed every single week of the year. Here is another one with another variation of truth and error mixture. Satan never tires of producing counterfits in order to create more confusion. By some estimates there are no over 32,000 different denominations within professing Christendom.

SGM has been around since the 1970's. It used to be called PDI Ministries back then but it has been around for quite some time. In their Seminary, they have Professors like Wayne Grudem, Mark Dever, Al Mohler, and others who teach the students. C.J. Mahaney has preached at churches like Grace Community (John MacArthur) and Joshua Harris, author of I Kissed Dating Goodbye, is also one of their pastors.

I am not certain they are outside of the mainstream. They are, though, charismatic.

Grundem also doesn't agree with permissive grace which he ID's in his Systematic Theology Book. OK, I will proceed with caution. They are however attracting young Calvinistic types. Don't know, I'm on the fence.

I did not label them a cult, only a johnny come lately and too late to be the true churches of Christ. Yes, I believe the Great commission is an age long promise and pragmatic method for reproducing New Testament congregations of like faith and order until Jesus comes again.

You caught me before I got around to editing out some of the cartoons. Sorry about that.

No, I am not making fun of your family. Your phrase "young Calvinistic types" cried out for a few graphics.
