Calvinism Threads

I don't think we need more Calvinism threads. We should start reviving old threads that dealt with the same subject matter. I used to be more involved in the Cal. vs. Arm. debates in the past and occasionally make a contribution,but nearly as much as in the past. I basically had my say between 2006-2009. Of course I participate when I see really egregious stuff being posted ,but let a lot slide thinking that the poster can't really mean what he says. He's just trying to get a rise out of folks.
The theologies of Calvinism and Arminianism get thrown around a lot when even standard Evangelical doctrine is being upheld.That's a mystery, when all regenerate folks ought to be believe in orthodox doctrine without it turning into a C vs. A grudge match.
We should let the Calvinism arguments rest. They are so familiar we might as well assign numbers to the arguments. Then we would have an efficient shorthand that would save a lot of time. Something like this:
Skandelon: Number 4!
Luke2427: I see your number 4 and counter with argument #12.
Webdog: #12 is feckless! #6 totally negates #12!
JArthur001: You need to study #3, #17, and #9.
Winman: #3 totally contradicts #9. And #17 is from the Old Testament and doesn't apply.

Fact is.. this comes in waves.
If you go back prior to all the Cal threads.. you will find all the threads about Arminians.
If you go back from those you will find all the threads about Cals.
ect..ect..ect..
It is a cycle here on the BB, and one that I am getting tired of and thus I stay away awhile, and pop in now and again. I used to be very active on the board (especially in these debates - for the non-Cal side), but since the exact same threads keep coming up, over and over again.. it is more like a copy/paste cycle than any real discussion anymore.
And most likely, very soon, there will begin a fresh wave of threads against Arminianism and an decrease in Cals to the point where you almost won't see Cal threads but Arminian filling the board - THEN - you will the Arminians and non-Cals post this same thing as you did :laugh: Actually, this is usually the what happens just prior to the shift... However the discussions will still surround the EXACT same topics.

I also have observed that some newbie will arrive at the board determined to bash the Calvinists and teach them a thing or two; or the Calvinist will come in determined to overwhelm the Arminian/Non-Cal.
Of course, there is never anything new, but neither neither side can let the error of the other side pass without responding, so here we go again.
So, I think a lot of it is newbies who think we've never argued this subject before.

These forums are here to discuss things. If people want to discuss Calvinism, let them. If you're tired of it, simply ignore the thread. Easy as that.
^^^^^^^Why not do away with the entire "Bible Version" forum then, using that same statement? What makes KJVOnlyism any different than Calvinism? Yet that is discussed, argued, beaten to death repeatedly, with no one "getting tired of it". To me, it's the same thing.

Because of the Calvinist threads, and a charge leveled at me in one of them, I have been doing some research into the early church history. In a lecture I was listening to it suddenly struck me that Calvin was influenced from a source of which I was unaware. I believe I have found a subject that has not been discussed. At the moment I am not ready to start a thread on that topic, but intend to do so ... perhaps next week. I will be away until after Easter.

Theological shorthand. Great! Especially when the discussion runs in the same old tiresome grooves.
Let me add that I am not against threads on Calvinism - I are one, after all - , but only when they are actually discussions demonstrating (on both sides) an ability and willingness to state the opposing view fairly. There is so much chest-beating here (not to mention dead horse beating) that, instead of mutually helpful give-and-take, it is all too often just a flesh-fueled free-for-all. I am not immune to this, which is another reason why I try to stay away from these.

I'm not trying to advocate not ever talking about it, but it seems like almost every new thread is about that. I was just trying to get some diversity.
Not every new thread is about KJV Only issues.
