Flags in church. My local congregation settled this issue several years ago - no flags on the platform. Why? Because this raises patriotism to the level of Christianity and is one of the reasons why the "old time religion" is morphing into a national civil religion.

Sounds like an excuse to me.
We need to preach the truth- and do so, we will be able to keep things in perspective.
