Best Apps for Apple and Android

I'm thinking we should start a new sticky, similar to the Best Freeware thread, that addresses apps for the Apple machines (iPad, iPhone, iPods, etc.) and Android (tablets and phones).

Would this be useful to anyone else?

I love my ESV Study Bible app and my Kindle app. I have them both on the iPad and iTouch.

MySword is a great Bible program for Android. Tons of resources already available.

Maple Paint and Map Droyd are pretty great also. Map droyd is similar to google maps only it is offline. Just basic type maps but you zoom from earth view to your site in steps and get down to a few blocks.

Maple Paint is great for written notes if you like that sort of thing as well as painting.

Currently have Tecarta KJV Bible, and MySword.

Using the Nook app, to coincide with my daughter's Nook Color.

Experimenting with Evernote, and ColorNote (I may have that name wrong; don't have my device with me, as I can't bring it into the building where I work).

The one thing Android has over iOS (iOS being Apple devices): Widgets. I'm lovin' the widgets....

Okay: Evernote - really useful for organization purposes; you can take pictures and save them as notes, make regular notes, have e-mails sent to Evernote to be saved as notes, etc. One use I've read about is people will take pictures of their receipts, then save them as notes in a particular folder; could be useful for tax purposes. The hard part for disorganized people like me is setting up particular folders to store, and then having the self-discipline to organize all the notes in the correct folder. (This also assumes you take a lot of notes; if you only take a few here or there, this app probably won't help you much).

Here's my app recommendation for the day: DoubleTwist. Plays audio, video, podcasts, audio books, and even radio stations (I use wifi only, folks; those of you that have limited data plans will have to watch your usage if you're doing the radio thing). Why do I recommend it? 1) Easy to use; 2) seems to play just about any format; 3) one application plays it all, meaning one shortcut on my home screen instead of at least two.

Okay, MySword users: Is there any way to turn off Strong's numbers?

Also, I'm trying create a list of favorite verses; but after I create a new Journal, and create some entries, then back out to the main program; when I open the Journal, it tells me there are no entries, although I can tap for a new entry or edit, and see the individual entries. I'm looking for the ability to see a list, and be able to choose them (these are subjects that come up in conversations; similar to the "Armed and Dangerous" type books).

Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong?

Strong's numbers: If not in options/menus download a standard KJV and switch between - I'd guess this is the only option.

You might email the app maker and suggest an option, it would be much nicer. As to the journal entries is there a save option in the menu system, I have not messed with that yet.

Edit: Just played a bit. I made two notes in the my notes and when you open the notes it opened to the last one. The arrows at the top menu move you through the notes.

In KJVTVM one of the options is to show Strong's tags and it is checked and I cannot uncheck it so I'd suspect downloading regular kjv is the present option.

I have Sermion Audio on my I-phone and I love it becuse my Chuch dose live brodcast on there and If I cant get too church I can watch it live!! But you can also watch many other churchs around the world!!

for Apple? Can't help you. My suggestion: do a web search for "best iphone solitaire" and see what comes up. Once you find something you want to try, then you can look for it in the Apple app store.

If nothing else you could get a windows netbook and some ducktape :laugh: Hope you find something, I would think that would be one of the first apps they would have made.

Windows and Mac. Have them both. Hate them both. I prefer the MS file system but mac seems safer on line. Some files I have to go to MS to open.

Okay, gotta say: it's taken me a while to figure out MySword, but I'm seriously enjoying this app. The Journal feature? Absolutely the best feature in my opinion. Not just the ability to take notes; but to also be able to insert individual verses or ranges of verses, either as a link to the verse or the text of the verse; able to insert pictures into the journal entries (think along these lines: a preacher you admire is giving the sermon; you can snap his photo and add it to your journal entry, along with the links to the verses he's using).

It's probably driving my pastor nuts that I'm tapping away while he's preaching; but then again, I used to take all kinds of notes with a pencil or pen, so I'm not really seeing the difference. I mean, it's not like those guys in the back row using their devices to check sports scores. . . . ::tongue3:

Oh, and let's not forget the materials available for download.

MySword gets a 4.75 out of 5 (because of the learning curve; the fact that this app is free almost cancels out the learning curve, but not quite).
