Greetings all,

I recently came accross some Christians who believe in using prayer clothes for spiritual warfare, casting out demons and such. I haven't studied in this area really at all. They use scripture such as Peter or Paul's garments having healing powers. They say they pray over the clothes and then give them to people to place in their home or under their pillows to ward off evil spirits.

Does anyone here have anything on this and do you think God would work this way? Does this practice really have any biblical support?

God Bless!

I gather that since there were over one hundred views with no comments on this subject that no one here believes in using them.

Sounds like more WOF stuff to me. There is scripture in Acts (19:11-12) which tells of people being healed by cloths owned by Paul, but that certainly is not the norm and I believe it was another sign gift used to validate the apostles message of Christ.

That passage goes on to tell of exorcists who then tried to copy Paul.
Didn't end up too well for them.

------------------- Why don't you people mention St. Peter he performed more than St. Paul and it was St. Peter that performed the first miracle. That power wasn't passed on to Peter's successors because there wasn't any need for it to be passed on. Only those powers absolutely necessary for the preservation of the Church have been given to the popes, Peter being the first pope then passed on to Linus.

I'm sorry but that is Roman Catholic gobbledy-gook.

No, the early church had MANY things occur that no longer do but prayer is a powerful thing and can travel through space and time. No need for man-made items to carry it. The very Spirit of God does. :)

What does all that have to do with the OP?

The miracles and other miraculous happenings that Peter did are all found in the Holy Bible, that is where the Catholic Church takes what you call gobbledy-gook,- "to be ignorant of Scripture is to be ignorant of Christ'' St. Jerome

Do you have a comment about prayer cloths?

Prayer clothes....I guess going to church in your Sunday Best could constitute prayer clothes. But clothes with special powers....I don't think so...there is nothing in Christianity to support this concept.

Only time I've heard about something like this was when a Reformed Baptist pastor was pushing the "stations of the Cross" and mentioned St. Veronica's veil:eek:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veil_of_Veronica:

Saint Veronica from Jerusalem encountered Jesus along the Via Dolorosa on the way to Calvary. When she paused to wipe the sweat (Latin suda) off his face with her veil, his image was imprinted on the cloth. The event is commemorated by the Sixth Station of the Stations of the Cross. According to some versions, Veronica later traveled to Rome to present the cloth to the Roman Emperor Tiberius and the veil possesses miraculous properties, being able to quench thirst, cure blindness, and sometimes even raise the dead.

I think the same way. Why do I need a prayer cloth? According to the scriptures I have a direct line of communication to God through Jesus Christ. I have the Holy Spirit, why do I need any inanimate object? Its no different than believing a cross or water blessed by a preist has some kind of power. I think it is misdirected faith, it is taking your eyes off of Jesus and placing your faith in an object.

Greetings Lakeside,

We have nothing against our fellow saint Peter and brother in our Lord. If you can prove any sort of "popeship" found in the scriptures I would be most interested.

Good to have you here! YBIC Saint Steaver

steaver, you mean kinda like how some people think that Jesus is a Bible Alone. They idolize the Holy Bible. Jesus is much more than a Holy Book . All your major world religions have a holy book Alone , only Christ's real One True Church believes Jesus to be more than a Holy Book. Jesus left us with His One Church not a Holy Bible , His Church later compiled the correct Canonical Books [ through the guidance of the HS] from the maze of Holy and unholy writings floating around back then circa 390-410 A.D..

Sorry - more gobbledy-gook.

The Word of God was established before 390 and it didn't need the "Church" to compile it - but the council confirmed what was already in practice.

Jesus is not a book but the Bible alone is our rule of faith and practice - not tradition.

Funny, last time I read the Bible [ few minutes ago ] I found where the Bible itself tells me that the Church is the pillar/foundation of all Christian faith, of course that would imply only the Christian faith as described back then and not the watered-down version [ s ] of Christianity invented hundreds of years later and still growing.
Notice in Matt. 18: 15-18 ... The Church is the final authority , also take notice ,back then in that One Church [ because Jesus said "my church" Matt 16: 18 not my churches ] that all doctrine was given "then " no need for any other later times churches . It wasn't the Bible that Jesus instructed /commanded the brothers to take their brother to, but it was to His Church[ Matt 18: 15-18] that they shoud listen to. Because Christ's Church is Apostolic as Jesus describes to His Apostles Luke 10:16.

"Jesus said to Simon Peter, Peter, " Feed my lambs... feed my lambs.... feed my sheep ' [ John 21: 15-17 ]
