Having the wrong view of Jesus Christ

Just watched the movie Joshua. This movie had excellent acting, ethics, morals, and good community/family values. However the theology was completely off. It featured a more weslyian/arminean view of Christ and a Christ that gave people what they wanted and not a Christ that preached holiness, purity, and separation from worldliness. Everyone wants a genie Jesus who does miracles, raises the dead, and gives everyone what they want. But this is not the Jesus of scripture. The biggest issues I had was that this "type" of Christ Joshua did not call people to repentance from their sins, and that He saw nothing at all wrong with Catholic theology. He did find fault and error however with the name it and claim it types, otherwise known as Word of Faith preachers. But honestly I cant say that Roman Catholicism is better than the theology of the Word of Faith preachers. Both are destructive.

I own this movie and absolutely love it. It's not meant to be a movie on theology, but focuses on the love of Christ and how it's His love that changes hearts. I do not get my theology from movies anyway.

My opinion is that it is sacrilegious for man to portray Jesus Christ. If that portrayal extends to imitating the suffering of Jesus Christ it is blasphemous!

The movie did not portray Christ's suffering. It takes place in modern day and is more of a "what if" Jesus came to visit our community. But, whatever.

I can see how that position might be held, and I can respect that, but I myself believe that every believer should watch the "Passion."

It is the only portrayal of the suffering of Christ I have ever seen that gives one an inkling of what He went through.

We can watch that portrayal without fearing we have either set up or are worshipping an idol, and I believe it is an eye-opener.

It has made me weep every time I have seen it.

But on the cross we have one who is absolute holiness and righteousness, who knew no sin, become sin for us that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. [2 Corinthians 5:21] It is absolutely impossible for sinful man to comprehend the suffering of Jesus Christ.

I would agree, however, it is not impossible for man to comprehend the suffering of Christ...better than he does now.

The spiritual aspect of the suffering of Christ can no man portray, assuredly, but, the physical suffering of Christ is potrayed in the Passion very well.

And as I said, it makes me weep when I see it. I recommend it to all.
