Please? I want my high school to win a contest and would have to link the voting thing on here.

If they don't let me, anyone can pm me and ask the link. :-D

Okay, um, just so this isn't pure spam in and of itself just by asking, here's a question:

What was your favorite high school memory?

My favorite high school memory is, when I was a sophomore, going to a nearby college to a foreign language festival and participating with Spanish students from our high school in a drama competition. We went on a tour of the college with a red-haired, very "gringa" college student tour guide who explained everything to us in Spanish. I remember watching her and listening to her and thinking "I want to be able to do what she's doing one day!" And I did go on to college and major in Spanish, and I have been a Spanish teacher and served in Spanish speaking ministries. My high school Spanish teacher was also very instrumental in my decision. What a wonderful teacher! So I can probably say my whole 4-year Spanish Class / Spanish Club experience was my favorite thing about high school. Ole!

Can I have a close, close second? Please, oh please!? Why, muchas gracias! Being in the chorus of Gilbert and Sullivan's Mikado when I was a freshman. There! I won't write a whole paragraph about that one, but it was wonderful!!!

Send me the link. Our high school was awarded $10,000 for the music program by the TV show Glee.

Pamela, two is fine! LOL! That was cute.

I loved biology. My best friend and I both spent years assuming we would be marine biologists together and I had decided that if not, I'd love to get into archaeology. I'd still love to get into the second one....ahhh, dreams!

So my favorite memory is of us dissecting stuff, but especially the huge frog. (I still want to dissect a human body because how living things work just amazes me in the complexity of how creation works)

I don't remember what part of the frog it was, but we got to one part and the teacher said something that we didn't quite hear, so we interpreted it as "tubey feet." So the entire time we worked, we kept going "frogs have tubey feet!" and busting up laughing. He was a pretty bad teacher though, and I worked my tail off but I couldn't see through the microscope and he tried to fail me for that, then we had these kits assigned to us but each class had two students who shared the same set, so when my friend and I went to finish dissecting the frog and the scalpel was missing, he accused me of stealing it and failed me on that too. (we didn't get along) I went to the principal and lodged a complaint and he ended up apologizing and asking me to go talk to the principal because he had a zillion complaints and was going to get fired. I felt bad for him and did, but was still ticked because I got a D in my favorite class and I know I did A quality work in there. I LOVED IT and learned a lot on my own since he couldn't teach it.

I never could see through a microscope and ended up giving up thinking about anything to do with biology because of it. Years later, as in when I was in my thirties, I guess how they make them has changed because now I can see through the new ones. I bought one for home during homeschooling when I was in my twenties and the kids were little, but I couldn't see through that one either and it wasn't a cheap one.

    Very weird.

But anyhow, biology is still my favorite memory and within biology, that frog and its tubey feet still bring a smile to my face.

One day I WILL go on a dig though. I will I will I will! I do still want to find a way to get into a class where I can dissect a human body too and be able to see for myself how it all works, be able to move stuff and feel how strong or fragile certain connections are, all that good stuff. Dunno if it is possible, but we'll see. I it would also help my writing, because it will make the way we work that much more amazing and I'll have a higher understanding and respect for how much was put into how our bodies operate. Seems that learning that stuff has always increased my awe for our Creator. So many things on this earth, all fit to work together. Billions of things, both giant things and things you can't even see, take away just one and the earth may just collapse or be vastly different from what we know. I hate when people won't even admit to intelligent design!

Gina, that is great!! Well, not the grade and other problem stuff, but everything else. :) I have a very distinct frog memory from high school Biology too. My best friend and I were lab partners. We were both a little squeamish but she managed to outdo me on frog dissection day by throwing up out of the second story biology classroom window as soon as the teacher put the frog in front of us. Thankfully we were in the back row by the windows or it would really have made quite a mess. She got to leave and I got the privilege of dissecting all by myself. The only problem I really had - amazingly - was pinning the legs down. They would NOT stay down for me. The teacher had to do it for me but after that it was pretty smooth sailing. For some reason I have never been able to forget the froggie's little gray liver. It made quite an impression on me - lol. Science was never my favorite subject or really anywhere close, but I found biology very interesting. Except for the genetics unit - lol. I am so thankful that we only spent a couple weeks on it or it would really have blown my grade - lol. My people always came out with three ears - or five legs - or two heads...

Voting is over, think we won but they're not announcing it until Monday. SO excited! YAY! I think. Ha!

Now I'm in the mood to dissect a frog. Pamela, I'll hold the legs, you get the liver.

We'll see how many BB members have Windows to puke out of. (yeah, bad pun master am I!)

Okay, back to high school memories.

One of the funniest "duh" moments was during a football game. We were in the middle of a cheer that we'd practiced very hard on and felt really confident about. So we're belting it out, going "We've got what it takes to beat the Tigers!" and wondering why the crowd isn't responding. Half-way through, we see someone in the bleachers signalling us like crazy and we look and she's got her hands cupped yelling to us "THEY AREN'T THE TIGERS!"
And they weren't. That's just the name we used to practice it and we forgot to change it to the name of the rival team.

Even more embarrassing was when we lost. Sure, we had what it took to beat the Tigers, but not whoever that was across the field so what good did it do us? Guess it counts for EVERYONE when they say "you gotta know your competition to beat them."
