Zechariah 14:8-9

I have been pondering over the meaning of these two verses for quite some time trying to understanding the meaning of it. I would appreciate your thoughts on them, that I may better understand them. My pastor preached on them and his explination seemed to fit better than anything that I had come up with.

It is describing the river that flows from the Holy Mountain were Beloved ("david") rules the earth from His Throne during the Millennium.
The river flows south and then splits east to the sea there and west to the Mediterranean Sea. The topography will be somewhat different
following the Great Tribulation (the Great Worldwide Earthquake). The section is from vs. 8-11. Pretty straight-forward.

Just my gut reaction - 8 and 9 are both referring to the same thing: 8 metaphorically, 9 literally. The "Living Waters" flowing both east and west from Jerusalem in v. 8 refers to the Lord being king over all the earth in 9. Jesus offers living water to the woman at the well. Does he actually describe himself at some point as living waters - think so, not sure.

I don't believe that the bible teaches of any actions in this world after the last day after Jesus gathers his elect and the world is burned up with a fervent heat, so this explination I will have to disregard. The closest thinking that I can apply to it is that "all the land" is individually our clay bodies which is divided into three parts, 1. The flesh 2. our pride, these two parts of God's elect individuals are cut off (circumcission of the heart). The third part, the inner man or the spiritual man, God will bring through the fire (a cleansing process called the baptism of fire that John said Jesus would baptise us with). I would like to hear ather explinations as I am still yerning to know more.

(Rev 21:1) Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer sea.

(Rev 21:2) And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.

(Rev 22:1) Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb,

I believe this is a picture taken at the beginning of the thousand year reign of Christ. We see in verses 3-5 the Lord coming back with ten thousands of His saints to execute judgment on the whole world at the end of the 7 year tribulation period. His feet will touch the Mount of Olives in fulfillment of prophecy in the NT given when He ascended up into heaven after His resurrection.

The "one day" of verse 7 may be compared with the verse which refers to the fact that one day with the Lord is as a thousand years and a thousand years is as but one day. There will be no sun giving light there, as mentioned in Rev. 22:5

"And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever."

Verse 6 says, "...the light shall not be clear, nor dark." I believe one thing that may be inferred from that verse is that the former scorching heat of the sun wil be replaced with the "True Light that lighteth every man that cometh into the world." The great blessing of having the Lord provide the Light of the world rather than the sun follows the tribulation period in which it is said,

"And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire." (Rev. 16:8)

Zech. 14:12-15 is, in my opinion, a recap of the events leading up to the end of the tribulation and the final battle at Armageddon just before the thousand year reign. Verses 16-21 refer to the period of the Lord's reign after the tribulation.

I agree this is a good post.

Christ is reiging as king and husband over his church from the time he set it up. Christ's church is refered to as many different names, The little flock, The new Jerusalem, The church of the first born, The remnant, the few, the kingdom of God and more. Matt 16:28, There be some standing here, which will not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom. Mark 9:1, verily I say unto you, that there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.

When Christ returns to gather his elect, he will not set foot upon earth, but those remaining will meet him in the air, and so shall they ever be with the Lord, 1 Thes 4:17. 2 Pet 3:10, The earth and the work that are therein shall be burned up.

except Isaiah predicts that Messiah will rule in jerusalem, over entire Earth

The Kingdom will be established for national Isreal at time of second coming, as the Kingdom of God will extend over all the earth, when messiah sets up his 1000 reign on earth!

The preterist view thinks Jesus returned but they cannot explain the numerous unfufilled prophecies that are to happen when Christ returns. The A-Mil view thinks we are in the kingdom now with Jesus ruling over the church but this can't be because Jesus isn't ruling over the church with an iron scepter-Rev 19:15.

Details do matter!

Right after Matt 16 comes Matt 17 where Jesus gives the few a sneak preview of His Glory by transfiguring Himself in the presence.

And there you have it.

I have always viewed this as a prophecy concerning Christ's crucifixion. When the Roman soldier pierced His side, forthwith came blood and water. In Rev. 22, John was shown a river of Living water, that proceeded from the Throne, and from the Lamb, and was clear as a crystal(i.e. pure). So I see this as prophesying(sp?) of the Living water that Jesus shed, along with His blood.

Yes, when reading God's Word, you definitely have to pay attention to those "small details" that the Holy Spirit puts in there.

Matt 17:1-2 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,
And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.

They [some standing here] had a "preview of coming attractions" - the Lord in his Glorified state.

For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits;
that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in. And so all Israel shall be saved:
as it is written, There shall come out of Zion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
[genetic Israel]
For this is my covenant unto them [genetic Israel], when I shall take away their sins. - Romans 11:25-27
