An 81 year old lady at the senior center wore a T-shirt with the following printed on in:

Every night I go to bed with a different author ... notice the lower case a in author.

It did make me wonder, how many on the BB read before going to sleep at night. I almost always read before going to sleep. I can't say I go to bed with a different author every night, but over a year it is with quite a few authors.

    How about you?

I try to read every night but some nights I'm too tired. I have the Kindle app on my iPad and I've been reading Jane Eyre in the last few weeks. I really like it!!

I take reading in bed at night by spells. Most people read to fall asleep, but sometimes, if I am really into a book, it keeps me awake!!

And, ann, I LOVE Jane Eyre.

The highlight of my day is bedtime and the hour (or two, or three sometimes) I get to enjoy the quiet time with my livre de la semaine before lights out. Pathetic, isn't it?

Whew! Had me there for a minute. I read the title of CTB's thread combined with the first line of the post.

Took me a couple of readings to get it straight. Whew!

I used to every night, but once I start a book, it doesn't often get put down until it is finished. That makes it especially tough in recent years since I will mentally correct the grammar as I read. That means that if I do read at night, it can't be a new author. It has to be one from at least ten years ago because so many new authors kinda stink at writing and they're not good enough to break the rules in a meaningful way. It makes reading the book like a rough march through woods thick with tangled adverbs and adjectives, then you've got dangerous modifiers dangling overhead in illogical formats - just waiting to sting you in the center of your brain. It might be interesting and the end may be satisfying, but getting there is a little too exhausting!

Ten bonus points to whoever can pick out all the grammatical errors in what I just wrote.

I've recently finished The Importance of Being Ernie, by Barry Livingston, who played "Ernie Douglas" on the television series, My Three Sons. It's mostly biographical, obviously with his story about how he got into acting as a kid and how he eventually bucked the trend and became a successful-- though not 'star'-- actor as an adult. Interesting, and surprising, in some ways. But for some reason, though I read it at night just before sleep, I don't want to say I was "going to bed with him."

Perhaps I should have added in the OP she said, "I also go to bed with a magnifying glass every night to see my author better."
