Are We All Crazy?

One definition of insane is to do the same thing over and over and over and over while expecting different results.

Remember the parable Jesus told to the Pharisees about the owner of a vineyard who sent person after person after person and finally his son to collect the rent?

In the parable God is the owner of the vineyard.

The people are the Pharisees, the religious folk.

Jesus is the owner’s son.

Why would God keep sending prophet after prophet telling the message from God and the people kept rejecting the message? Why would he finally send his own son?

In our personal lives why do we keep doing the same thing over and over and over hoping for a different result, for better results?.

Are we all crazy?

My best answer for God's behavior?

He is infinitely patient. Doing the RIGHT thing over and over until His plan is ultimately accomplished.

“But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in loving kindness.” (Psalms 86:15)​

He isn't mindlessly doing the same thing - via rote mechanics - over and over. He is displaying His loving-kindness over and over. Not enabling us to sin more, but to present the "way of escape" as many times as He sees fit.​

My best answer for our behavior?

We are sometimes crazy. We CAN display the patience of God via the Holy Spirit bearing fruit in our lives and that type of patience with other people and circumstances leads to someone's benefit and spiritual gain. Maybe even our own.

We are also infinitely wicked. The book of Proverbs describes that dog that keeps on eating its own vomit. And the fool who will not let go of his folly.

Yes, sometimes people won't quit damaging behaviors. Yes, sometimes people won't start good habits and yet they (we) keep on excepting things to change.

But that's who we are, not God.

His sending prophet and prophet to the people of Israel and ultimately His Son to the world was for a high purpose that BECAUSE of man's wickedness and not God's rote behavior required for God to show His patience time and time again.

HP: I know you addressed this to Crabtownboy, but if it works for DHK in his posts to me , it should be good for anyone else as well, especially a preacher.

According to DHK if you misrepresent another, even if just in ones own mind, you have in effect lied about the other's position. Secondly, unless you don't mind being called a liar by DHK, where is the quote where Crabtownboy ever said or insinuated what you asked?

That you cannot see this is protocol for you.

CTB uses God's methodologies of doing the same thing over and over, and then asks if we are all crazy.

The implication? Bright as the Sun. That you missed it? Commonplace. :wavey:

That you desire to engage on a back and forth rabbit trail with me filled with your errors, misinterpretations, false teachings &c? Not gonna happen.

P4T, I do believe you have missed the point entirely. But each of us interprets from our own beliefs and experiences. I'll check back tomorrow morning.

HP: Definitely true in a scientific sense but maybe not in every sense. When dealing with humans and the human mind, some of which can actually reason, ( :) ) repetition is indeed useful and even necessary. We can be so set in our own understanding that we can miss the truth of something being presented numerous times. We all witness how so many times we talk over each other never really getting to the core of ones thinking and properly examining it. We all can be guilty of that. My hope would be that in all the repetition, somewhere along the way it might be to the praise and glory of God. :thumbs:

Speaking of being crazy, I was told this week of ones friend who was on government subsidies while working a full-time job, which under normal conditions one could not be and still receive them. When asked how he could collect this government subsidy and still be working, he replied. "I'm crazy!"

Sometimes it must pay to be crazy, or so it would appear.

The owner did NOT repeat identical actions. You Baptists need to read your Bible.

The point of the parable is the owner sent a series of debt collectors, each bunch having more power and authority. Each level of authority was rejected so the ultimate authority had them killed.
