How many believe that salvation takes place the minute a person believes what the bible teaches about Jesus and they pray a prayer of faith (ask Him into their heart) or is there something else that has to happen?

No need to ask Him into the heart. Simply believe and confess.

Is it belief?

Is it faith?

Is it trust?

Is it obedience?

Is it a certain prayer?

It is ...?

Is the question, "Just what saves?"

Or is the question, "Just who saves?"

This is the question;

No prayer or magic words have ever saved anyone. Yes, we are saved the moment we believe, but it is Jesus that is doing the saving not us. Jesus is the "justifier of him which believeth in Jesus." Romans 3:26

What is the something else that you are thinking of?

Let me ask you this. You say that we are saved the moment we believe. Then why do so many have to get saved later in life who believed as a child and then realize they were really not saved? I am assuming you have seen this many times as I have. They thought they had been saved, they prayed went to church, maybe taught Sunday school, some become deacons and yet later they realize at some point they are not saved. How is this is believing makes us saved? If salvation happens at belief then why are so many coming back to get saved years later?

Two questions, if I may:

1. What do you think?

2. What prompted this question?

I suppose that is an easy way to cover up the fact that you do not know.

realise that you are a sinner, cannot save yourself, MUST have a saviour, believe that Jesus is Son of God/Messiah, died in your place/took your own sins. and that jesus rose frm the dead! Believe that in way John states too, and you shall be saved!

But doesn't the devil believe all that?

I believe that most the church is spreading a lie as how to get saved and most people are buying it based on how they live.

By church, do you refer to baptists, or the Christian church collectively (baps, luths, meths, RCs, etc.); and what lie do you refer to?

By church I mean every institution that claims Jesus as Lord and point men to salvation. The lie is what you read here. No one seems to know how to get saved. I am not saying people are willfully lying, but that they are un-wittingly spreading a lie because they do not know themselves.

Read over the posts they are all different. Several years ago I went around to the different denominations in this area and ask the Pastors what they felt was the way people get saved. Not a single Pastor from any of the denominations gave a scriptural response. It was an extremely disappointing event and it continues today in most every church in America.

I got everything from keeping the commandments, believe that Jesus is the son of God, ask Jesus into your heart, believe that Jesus died for my sin, believe Jesus rose from the dead, believe Jesus is God, believe Jesus was virgin born, confess your sin, ask to be forgiven, be sorry for your sin, repent of your sin, do nothing just believe on Jesus, and many more with varying combinations of these mentioned.

So how about you, how do you think a person gets saved? What do they have to do?
