The Olivet Discourse

I am reading a book by MacArthur called The Second Coming and a book by Jeremiah called Until Christ Returns. Both books focus on the Olivet Discourse from a Dispensationalist perspective. Both books are good, however are written for the layman or undergraduate student. The facts that the authors point out in the books are accurate. No question that earthquakes have drastically increased over the years, and as many of you know the last month or so has seen a number of earthquakes in various parts of the globe. These are a part of the birth pangs that Jesus mentions in Matt 24. My questions for you are the following.

1. Do you know of any graduate level works just on this passage of scripture written from a dispensationalist perspective? I am aware of Gentry, but he is no Dispensationalist. I suppose I could buy a commentary but that is not exactly what I am after. After I finish these books I'd like to take a further dive into this passage of scripture.

2. Partial preterism is what? MacArthur spends time rebuking full preterism, but does not deal with partial (at least up to page 80).

Matthew 24:1-3.
1. And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.
2. And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
3. And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

The Olivet Discourse addresses the questions posed by the disciples:

1. When shall these things be? The things are those mentioned by Jesus Christ in verse 2, the destruction of the Temple!

2. What shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

My understanding is that a partial preterist sees the response to both these questions in the Olivet Discourse and that both did not occur in 70AD. This is the view I hold.

Again my understanding is that a full preterist sees only the events of 70AD in this Discourse, an interpretation I reject.

yes, as ALL NT prophencies concerning the second coming of Christ happened AD 70 acoording to them , as they would spiritualize all of the prophecies pretty much...

what is difference between partial pretierism and AMil?

And there you have it, a very well thought out and reasonable as well as a pejorative free response. Good job!

Just a point here. Many people think that earthquakes have dramatically increased but that is simply incorrect according to the stats. If anything overall they have decreased. You can look here;
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eqarchives/year/eqstats.php

As to Partial preterism RC Sproul follows that. Here is a link explaining it
http://www.biblestudying.net/preterism1.html

You are reading the stats wrong. Earthquakes worldwide have increased since 1900! I can tell you that in my short life (1977-Present) that earthquakes have increased worldwide!

Thanks for clarifying this. By that token I am no preterist.

A partial preterist could be amillennial, post millennial, premillennial. I suppose a dispensationalist could be a partial preterist.

Really? What type of Dispensationalist? There are more than 5 types if I remember correctly from Eschatology in seminary.

pre-trib? mid-trib? post-trib? progressive? hyper?????

I suppose any should be able to see that part of the Olivet Discourse deals with the destruction of the Temple in 70AD. That "was" what Jesus Christ started talking about.
