Let me know if you can see this. It's a photo on a Facebook page for one of the local Methodist churches who is having a haunted house and tarot readings. At first when I saw the haunted house, I thought it might be one of those "hell houses" but it's not. TAROT READING???????

So while the Methodist church might be great in other parts of the country, it's pretty much dead here in NY.

Oh thats rich .... now I will have to look what our local Methodist Club has on their agenda for Halloween. Last year for Easter they had a passenger Helium Balloon go up in the parking lot as a symbolic Christ ascending to heaven. I'm sure they have something to top that for Halloween!

To give you an idea about the Southern Baptist church in the Bible Belt:

http://nibbypriest.com/halloween-memories-weak-kool-aid-reese-cups-church-fortune-tellers/

Two things that I remember most about the Halloween parties were the spook house and the fortune teller.

In another closet off of the social hall we had a fortune teller setup. The fortune teller was good she dressed up nice had a Chrystal ball, a deck of cards and everything. . . .the adults starting going in the closet to have their fortune told. Yes, this was taking place in the basement of the First Baptist Church.

The "lady who had a baby" [after having her fortune told] was my mother who, at 31, had 2 adopted kids b/c she'd been told she couldn't have any of her own. Everyone at FBC laughed at the "prognostication". . . .she ended up pregnant just a few months later!

Ann and Jerome, thanks for the links. My only comment would be why does any church, regardless of denomination, feel obligated to even acknowledge Halloween. What possible purpose could there be for having Halloween parties for children in a New Testement church? Why do churches feel compelled to follow a secular calendar. Halloween is not even a holiday in the first place, and the concept has no Christian or spiritual value.

I am all for kids going out, dressing up, and going trick or treating. Why does a church have to add a second party? One of the most ridiculous concepts I have ever heard. It makes closing church to watch the Super Bowl like a sacrament.

I spent 13 years pastoring within the UMC in upstate NY. Tarot readings are the least of their problems.

Halloween is the eve before All Saints Day which, in the past, had a religious significance something to do with evil spirits taking their last shot.

Like sitting in a room full of PhDs that didn't know the difference between Sin and diversity. Open door, open hearts, open your wallet.....

Funny that these "academics" cant see what the poor field pastors do to support the local church while they sit around in mental masturbation.

My ancestors were Baptists, Anglicans & Methodists coming out of Wales & many settled into the Calvinistic Methodist Movement.....it was big amongst the Coal Miners of Pennsylvania. But they were always excited that they were Methodists......apparently that has fallen away. Not even a remnant exists today.

Glad your out & doing the Lords work independent of those idiots. Bless you & your family!
