Raising hands at Church

At our church half the women folk are given white handkerchiefs and the other half paper fans we got from the funeral home. Half the men folk are given cards that say That's Right; Amen; Preach It; UmHmmm; Glory, Glory, Glory! They take their cue from the song leader to shout out the words on their cards. Half of the remaining half are to remain in the posture of prayerful consideration (which may look like sleeping to the uninformed) and the remaining quarter sit out in the truck smoking Camels and reading the Sunday paper. The pastor ain't allowed to sit out in the truck.

One woman and one man are the designated grumpy folk who do nothing but scowl at the paper fan folk. Now if you can't raise your hands with all of that......

 

Why would you have to do that....this has always been my consept.

Prayer

5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

 

That's a disconnect. The OP is talking about raising hands in a service, and you're statement is about prayer?

 

I don't know what service is than but prayer...in any event then, I don't do it.

 

I Timothy 2:8
I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.

 

So...when your church gathers together all you do is pray? You don't sing? There's no scripture read? No preaching? You just pray and go home?

 

All we do is pray and read scripture. That's correct.

 

My hands aren't holy

 

Ok cool...I've never have heard of a church that only prayed and read scripture, so then I guess raising hands wouldn't be much of an issue in your congregation.

 

I personally don't do it anyway....that's how I roll.:laugh:

Yes, I do raise my hands sometimes. (usually one hand).

The scriptues support it so it is acceptable

Sometimes I raise my eyebrows, specially if I think someone's going to sit in "my" pew.

 

No, if any of my hands ask for a raise I refuse...... if I can.

Ed. I don't think church is the place to ask for that, anyway.
