ANY WAY HE WANTS TO AND FOR YOU TO NEVER KNOW

There are many things in God's word that are a mystery...but His word is very clear that TONGUES of any kind died out after the cannon was written. The gift of LANGUAGE was no longer needed.

2 Thess 2:9...."that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders"

So it is ok for the Holy Spirit to pray and you not know or understand what he is saying, correct?

Be careful....

The verse you gave says nothing of the canon.

....this member is good at adding things to Scripture to make her point.

BTW - P&S, do you speak in tongues, or have prayer language? You continue to flirt with the topic, but as of yet, I haven't heard you commit one way or another. If you do as some of us, why not come out of the prayer closet and take the plunge. The water is fine. A little hot, and turbulent, but just fine!

I sure do! I pray in tongues daily in my closet after I pray English and read the psalms. I've found that I can pray everything I can think of in about a half hour, then when I pray in tongues I can pray for hours. The change in results was astounding when I started. I was very skeptical at first. Then, as one result, I got a better understanding of scripture, and joy increased big time! I went from carnal to spiritual.

Thanks....for being candid and transparent!

For the skeptics out there, P&S couldn't have said it better than he just did! If we were all to be truthful, there are probably more closet charismatics on the board, then we would ever begin to believe. It is time the charismatic come out of the closet and admit the truth. It isn't going to hurt you....after all, they don't tar-and-feather us any longer for speaking in tongues.

This shouldn't change how we fellowship on this board. Charismatic's don't think less of those who oppose our views. We are still the same people you've been talking to for years. We are just admitting to something some of you think is akin to having leprosy. It is time to end the witch hunts, and accept the fact that some of us think that God still gives out this gift.

Like I said, it is not shining a bad light on those who don't so why are those who don't shining a bad light on those of us who do????

Like Rodney, King once said, "Why can't we all just get along?" We are still brothers and sisters in Jesus. We love you the same, so stop being judgement and putting us down. I haven't heard a word of judgement against any of you about not having the gift. I still accept you and never question your gifts. SO, WHAT IT THE PROBLE????:sleeping_2:

And maybe...

Please awaken yourself and read Romans 8:26-27.

....and I say this in love, because you and I seemingly have a good relationship, supportive and usually on the same track, scripturally...maybe you need to read Acts 2:17-21 and tell me when the last days are going to begin? I'd like Scriptural backing that shows tangible dates. And if you get into signs, does that not make you dependent upon signs and wonders" yourself????

After all, We were told to live as if Jesus was coming like a thief in the night. That could only mean that He could come any time...which would support Joel and the repeat of that prophecy in Ats 2:17-21....

Why are you worried about a cannon when it is obvioius from Scripture that tongues have ceased? How many times have we been over this?

“whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away” (1 Cor. 13:8).

Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 13:8-12—

“Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.

“When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.”

To repeat what has been said numerous times, the gifts of tongues and prophecy were active during the entire book of Acts. During the book of Acts, Paul wrote these letters:

1. Galatians

2. & 3. The Thessalonian letters

4. & 5. The Corinthian letters

6. Romans

It was revealed to Paul that tongues would CEASE when he wrote 1 Cor. Here are the books he wrote after the time of Acts.

The 4 Prison Epistles:

7. Ephesians

8. Colossians

9. Philemon

10. Philippians

Then the 3 Pastoral Epistles:

11. Titus

12. 1 Timothy

13. 2 Timothy

Not one time in those books is tongues or prophecy mentioned. It is kind of obvious when and why they ceased.

So why is it this becomes a recurring posting of yours? Why are you a Baptist and not a Pentecostal, charasmatic, SDA, or Holiness type?

Also, if you ever paid attention to Corinthians, even if tongues did exist today, Paul said he would rather speak a few intelligble words to the congregation than a thousand words in tongues.

Also, if you pray in tongues, one can only assume God answers in tongues. Is the answer interpreted and given to the local church in an edifying manner as Scrpiture requires? For about the tenth time, you never did give an account of an example of that three step process.

So what is the purpose of praying in tongues that have ceased? Is God unable to understand English?

Just wondering, does praying in the closet overcome all the unScriptural things about the practice?

That which is perfect has not come, Jesus. It says face to face. When we die, we will be face to face. Or His second coming. Has knowledge passed away? No. And when I say closet, it refers to a prayer closet. A quiet place where it's just me and God.

Good point, and yes, very few on this board have I been in agreement more than you over the years. All I can say on this point is one, these verses speak of dreaming dreams and seeing visions, and prophecy. I see no evidence of the return of tongues.

We do use signs of the times to point to the start of the last days. I guess in a way, the last days started at Pentecost. Anyway, I know you like throwing monkey wrenches into my posts, and you did a good job with this one. LOL

After considerable study, I would say the end of days started with the Hippie Movement in California, then when California gave the nation Richard Nixon. The deal was sealed when you all sent Jerry Brown back as governor a second time. LOL. So, regardless of which party you are in, this is all your fault.

I do not know whether or not you agree with tongues, praying in tongues, signs and wonders, etc, however, it is not a major issue with me. Kind of like the timing of the tribulation or rapture, etc. I posted above why I thought they have ceased. If I am wrong, then so be it. Your salvation and mine are based on grace through faith in Jesus Christ only. It is certainly not something that comes between brothers in Christ. From years of reading your posts, there is no doubt in my mind about Christ shining through you regardless of this issue.

That does not explain or have anything to do with when the gift of tongues ceased.

Sure it does. Most say "when that which is perfect comes" ,meaning the canon, the signs will cease. The word perfect in this verse does not mean the canon, it is Jesus Himself.

Did you give consideration to the post above on the timing of tongues ceasing, along with all the other posts that have been repeated in other threads?

Yes I've studied both sides, and the timing. I was a skeptic too and it took a lot of study. It was after I saw a healing right in front of me that convinced me I needed to take another look at the gifts, signs and wonders, miracles and our supernatural God.

HOW DOES THE HOLY SPIRIT PRAY FOR US WHEN WE DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO PRAY? A difficult question for unbelievers.

Romans 8: KJB
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
