....the pope, in a morning Mass on Wednesday, suggested that belief and faith weren’t the biggest factors. He said, CNN reported: “The Lord has redeemed all of us, all of us, with the Blood of Christ — all of us, not just Catholics. Everyone. ‘Father, the atheists?’ Even the atheists. Everyone. We must meet one another doing good. ‘But I don’t believe, Father, I am an atheist.’ But do good: We will meet one another there.”

Another proof that the RCC totally disregards Scripture! "Ye MUST be BORN AGAIN!"

The Pope is wrong. But it is interesting that he maintains that all are redeemed. All are redeemed is not far from saying Christ died for everyone. And of course I am most strenuously against that position.

Really Rippon, my what a surprise!

And to make it worse, a spoke person trying to clarify proved the RCC really believes no one can be saved who has knowledge of the Catholic church yet refuses to join her....

The Vatican, on Thursday, was forced to issue a statement of clarification.
The Rev. Thomas Rosica, a spokesman for the Vatican, said those who have knowledge of the Catholic Church “cannot be saved” if they “refuse to enter her or remain in her,”

I will reserve my judgment until our Catholic friends wade in on this. Is this taken out of any context? And if not, can they explain why their number one top man, supposedly placed in this position by Jesus Christ Himself to be His voice, would say such an antichrist thing?

the RCC always has held that the Grcae of god will save those who never heard about jesus, and sincere believers in other religions who are ignornt of the RCC teachings, so he just added on to that list!

ONLY groups denied salvation in RCC still seems to be those Ex catholics who denied the "mother church", and non catholics who know and reject RCC doctrines!

Where are our RCC friends? I would like to hear what they have to say about these statements.

Or maybe they got tired of all the personal attacks instead of sticking to doctrine. Not saying some of them didn't also engage in the personal stuff, but I didn't see TS and Walter doing that.

bump

Would like to see the catholics viewpoint on the pope's statement.

There was recently an entire thread dealing with the popes statement and showing he wasn't advocating universalism. I am bumping it. Not sure where the other Catholics, Anglicans, and like minded brethren have been but I have very little time to post during the summer months.

I don't think he was either. But what he did advocate is good works are what saves. He said an atheist can go to heaven on their good works, that is apart from any belief in Jesus Christ or God.

So why does your #1 in charge have no understanding of the gospel????

Steaver, the pope was not advocating good works are what saves. I think Jimmy Akin's article explains what the pope was actually talking about in his article in The Catholic Register. It isn't that long of an article, so I won't try to summarize it.

People on this board have been assuming that the pope was talking about atheists being saved. He was not. What he's saying 'is that even atheists need to do good on earth to build their part of the culture of encounter that promotes peace and allows people to "meet together" in harmony'.
