Pope Says Even Atheists Can Go To Heaven!!!

Steaver, the pope was not advocating good works are what saves. I think Jimmy Akin's article explains what the pope was actually talking about in his article in The Catholic Register. It isn't that long of an article, so I won't try to summarize it.

http://www.ncregister.com/blog/jimm...that-atheists-can-get-to-heaven-by-good-works

People on this board have been assuming that the pope was talking about atheists being saved. He was not. What he's saying 'is that even atheists need to do good on earth to build their part of the culture of encounter that promotes peace and allows people to "meet together" in harmony'.

I read this reinterpretation of The Popes words and it just does not fly.

"Jimmy" says that human beings can be called "children of God" in many senses. However, the sense the Pope includes "Atheists" as children of God is not only "likeness" but redemption by blood of Christ. It is one thing to say they have POTENTIAL to become the children of God by the blood of Christ and quite another thing to declare them to be already a child of God by the blood of Christ Indeed, his first application to Atheists is not "image" but children by the blood of Christ and I quote:

"‘Father, the atheists?’ Even the atheists. Everyone! And this Blood makes us children of God of the first class! We are created children in the likeness of God and the Blood of Christ has redeemed us all! And we all have a duty to do good."

Second, he claims that due to being created in the likeness of God that all men equally have the potential to do "good" that is acceptable to God. Christ flatly contradicts that. He first denies that any Jew kept the Law:

Jn. 7:19 Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?

Mt. 19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God:

Paul repeated the same thing "there is none good, no, not one" - Rom. 3:10

The fact is that the moral image that provided ability to do good was defiled by the fall and can only be restored by new birth and Atheists and other unbelievers in Christ have no such capacity for several reasons.

Col. 3:10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

Eph. 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Jesus plainly said the tree must first be made good before it can have good fruit. Jesus plainly said a corrupt tree cannot bring forth good fruit.

The London Baptist Confession of Faith gives the best explanation why lost people cannot do "good" works in God's sight:

7. Works done by unregenerate men, although for the matter of them they may be things which God commands, and of good use both to themselves and others; yet because they proceed not from a heart purified by faith, nor are done in a right manner according to the word, nor to a right end, the glory of God, they are therefore sinful, and cannot please God, nor make a man meet to receive grace from God, and yet their neglect of them is more sinful and displeasing to God.
( 2 Kings 10:30; 1 Kings 21:27, 29; Genesis 4:5; Hebrews 11:4, 6; 1 Corinthians 13:1; Matthew 6:2, 5; Amos 5:21, 22; Romans 9:16; Titus 3:5; Job 21:14, 15; Matthew 25:41-43 )

At best the Pope is ignorant of Scripture and at worst he is a heretic.

Another proof that the RCC totally disregards Scripture! "Ye MUST be BORN AGAIN!"

ALL have been bought with the blood of Jahshua--just like the false prophets who denied him coming in flesh in scripture.

Jahshua will MAKE ALL Righteous---Just as Adam made ALL Sinners

NOT taking away from the Judgement on unbelievers(CORRECTION)which there will be torment and pain in--but when their time is fulfilled--they will be brought to Yahshua also. :love2::love2::love2:

You don't have a clue what you are talking about. There is not one iota of Scripture that says the unbelievers will be brought to God after being tormented in the lake of fire.

through 1 man(adam) ALL were MADE SINNERs
Through 1 man(JAHSHUA)ALL SHALL BE MADE RIGHTEOUS

Adam's trangression was a past action completed event
JAHSHUA'S Sacrifice was a past action event that has a FUTURE PURPOSE

SHALL BE MADE is a future tense event for ALL.

Are you rewriting the Word of God? If so, it is no longer the Word of God, but the Word of man.

Here is what that verse actually says. Notice it does not say all will be made righteous.

Romans 5:19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. It says many.

The word many indicates an indeterminate number. That number could mean all, but it could also mean some. Yes, all were made sinners. But it is abundantly clear that not all will be made righteous.

the MANY in both cases refers to ALL mankind--anyway you wanna look at it

Both either refers to some and not all
or Both refers to ALL

cant have 1 referring to all and other referring to some--Paul said IN LIKE MANNER--they both are some or ALL

And we know that ALL men were made sinners from the fall of Adam
SO therefore ALL SHALL BE MADE RIGHTEOUS.

Now I know you will twist the scriptures up because you disagree--but it is what it is friend :thumbs::thumbs:

Wait - Are you saying like Rob Bell that eventually all mankind will end up in heaven?

It is you who is guilty of twisting the Scriptures.

Scripture clearly speaks of eternal torment for the wicked. Yet you twist that eternal torment into a lesser time.

You continue to mock God and His Word with no fear of the judgment that is to come.

Woah - now you're getting even further from orthodox teaching . Teaching that everyone will be made righteous - even those who have denied Christ and do not have the Spirit in them? Unbelievable.

Wycliff's translation:

Matthew 25:46 And these schulen goo in to euerlastynge turment; but the iust men schulen go in to euerlastynge lijf.

Everlasting torment... no end.
Everlasting life... no end.

that's what the scripture says friend--only reason you don't see it is you twist it from its original form to fit your way of doctrine.

It is not I who is blind to the truth.

I gave you the Scripture. Here it is again:

Matthew 25:46 And these schulen goo in to euerlastynge turment; but the iust men schulen go in to euerlastynge lijf.

Everlasting... no end. If there is an end to torment in the lake of fire, then there would have to be an end to life in Christ.

Thankfully, the Scripture is truth. You are not.

your soooo wrong friend.

I can provide you with at least 8 scriptures from the scriptures that plainly show forever doesn't mean eternal but AGE LASTING(short or long duration of time)

So tell us, what does everlasting mean? Do you, like others believe it means 'until the end of the age'?

If that is the case, then we must also conclude that there is an end to everlasting life as well. After all, it uses the same Greek word as that used to identify the amount of time the wicked are tormented.

It is you who are mislabeling the Scriptures. As you have been consistently doing for the last several days.

Oh my word. The scriptures are clear - there is an eternity of suffering for those who are not a child of God. To say that everyone will get to heaven negates the entirety of Scripture and makes God an unjust God. Honestly, there is nothing more to be said when it is now clear that we have completely differing beliefs and we will be talking past each other. You deny Scripture, make a name an idol and believe that it's all good in the end - incredible.
