I would appreciate your prayers. I'm in St. Augustine, Florida for a few days. We're prayerfully considering a move here for me to do the work of an evangelist. I arrived in time for the Wednesday night service at Amazing Grace Baptist Church and met with the pastor this morning. I spent the day getting to know the city better and was able to distribute a few tracts and share the Gospel with a couple of people that I hope to follow up on tomorrow. I am asking the Lord to provide for me to do this full time, but am also looking for "regular" employment. Yes, I am called a Hyper-calvinist by many, but I believe the gospel is to be preached to everyone and that God commands all men to repent.

Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened to me by the Lord, now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.

For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things?

For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.

I wouldn't call you a hyper-cal if your preach to everyone.

Don't they hold to salvation apart from faith? (They will qualify it with eternal salvation)

Our faith has nothing to do with our eternal destiny but everything to do with the benefits to be had from obedience to the gospel here, now, in this realm.

God Himself has settled all eternal aspects of our salvation. It's up to us to believe that , rest in it, trust Him, adhere to Him, rely on Him, love Him, love our neighbor, and enjoy the table He has set before us. That is the interpretation that every "Old School Baptist" holds to.

Not everyone I know. Faith is the work of God and follows regeneration. This is why we are to preach the gospel to everyone. There are PB's I don't agree with. I believe all of the Bible. God is sovereign over all events in time as well as eternity.

Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent."

Now when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord. And as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed.

You have rendered faith completely irrelevant, contrary to scripture. What you said is hyper Calvinism. This is like saying that applying the Passover lamb's blood had nothing to do with the death Angel passing over, just slaughtering the lamb was sufficient... but they just benefited from the obedience.

You do need to move to SBC. Only by the direct operation of the Holy Spirit can eternal life be brought to the dead sinner (John 3 : 6-8) . Have fun with them. As for me, I remain a Hard Shell.

An Old School Baptist preaches to everyone, after all who can tell who is regenerated & who isnt.....and so we preach for the comfort and instruction of the Lord's people (Isa. 40: 1-2, 9; Eph.4: 11-16). Thats why we preach.

That's exactly what I believe and what the two passages I quoted state. The Spirit gives life to whom He will, the flesh profits nothing. Jesus commands us to preach to everyone we can.

OK.....do you want to tell me the difference between PB and this new school religious societyyour getting chummy with? And did you even bother to try to seek out other PB churches in Florida? Apparently not...but then you claim your a Hyper Calvinist ... what's that all about? And are you implying you have to preach the gospel to save men? So you ar the PB/ Hyper Calvinist that preaches the gospel in order to save men? REALLY!?! What you are is a very confused individual and it shows in this thread.

I believe I know what SM meant when he said, "Yes, I am called a Hyper-calvinist by many". Just because one is a Calvinist they are considered to be hyper-Calvinists. SM, I would not worry about that too much. Sinners are converted through the preaching of the Gospel.

Sovereign Mercy should never be comparing himself to Calvinists of any stripe.....he has claimed himself a Primitive Baptist & he knows what that claim entails....namely that Primitive Baptists believe in salvation by grace Now anybody walking the planet can say that he believes in salvation by grace, but if he sets forth any act of man's will, such as repentance, faith, baptism, or hearing the gospel, as a condition for obtaining it, then this position must be put on the works side. And he knows this. Therefore if SM truly believes these things, I would NOT consider him a Old School Baptist in his beliefs......therefore I would suggest that he really reevaluate his beliefs before he goes further.

Perhaps this is personal, but did SM have serious dialog with his Pastor & some of the elders of his Chattanooga PB church about this....or is he just meandering.

Was it not Tom from Paducah KY who told the story of his evangelistic street mission adventures where he & a friend went to the house a a few young men in the neighborhood & they invited him in ....and long story short, these fellas knew the bible but made the choice to not be Christians (kinda too hard for them). Hmmmm, so the Gospel gets presented, the recipient knows it forward & back, but the end result is that the gospel did not save them. Hmmmmm

Well to quote Jesus himself speaking to ole legalistic Nicodemus (Israel's teacher)

    John 3:6-8

6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[a] gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”[c]

So again, only by the direct operation of the Holy Spirit can eternal life be brought to the dead sinner. The gospel brings life and immortality to light, but doesn't produce life (see 2 Tim.1: 10).

10 but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.

My final comment on this. As I have asserted all along repentance, faith, regeneration are 100% the work of God. There are false professors of faith out there. The apostle John tells about them and Judas was a prime example. He says that they went out from us because they were not of us. If you read and believe all of the Gospel of John then you cannot deny the statement below.

He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.

I am not worried, by God's grace I teach the whole counsel of God. You are correct I am called a Hyper-calvinist although I cannot get anyone to define what that means. I have been called an antinomian and a legalist in the same accusation. Paul says the Gospel is the power of God no salvation, it is the means by which the Spirit gives life to whom He will.
