Why evangelism is important

Based on the lack of replies from a previous poll thread I am sad that I have failed to properly emphasize the importance of evangelism here and it is very important. Some teach that evangelism is not something that we do, but something that we are and there is some truth to this, however overall its a false idea, as it goes against scripture which says to go out and "preach" to every creature. Lifestyle/friendship evangelism is often a cop-out for doing the real work of evangelism. Also there are others that teach that they do not need to do evangelism, but must rely on the "professional" evangelist to do the work. This idea is very common among IFB churches, and is another false view, because evangelism is for all believers. Such types completely ignore the teachings of Hells Best Kept Secret and the Way of the Master. I have challenged them, but they ignore me, so they have not thought out their ideas. They often say "Steve Petit" or "whomever" gets lots of people saved, and God works through him. Yes God can work through them, but what of those that go out and get no one saved? Are they not as obedient and used by God as well? Also how do you know how many that made professions are really a true convert? I hope people will get excited about evangelism on this board. So here is a devotional to help.

From the Way of the Master Minute

Thus says the Lord, 'Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glories glory in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.'"(Jeremiah 9:23-24) We may have the wisdom of Solomon, the might of Samson, or the riches of Abraham, but God says that that is nothing to get excited about. We should instead be rejoicing if we know God and understand what it is that pleases Him. He delights in loving kindness, judgment, and righteousness. And there is no greater evidence of these things than in the cross of Calvary. It was there that He once and for all displayed His love, His justice, and His righteousness. There goes another minute. Gone forever. Go share your faith while you still have time.

My problem resides is the thinking that we all are evangelists.

Such is not Scriptural.

We are to be witnesses, ones to testify what Christ has done.

There is a difference.

Secondly, no one goes out and gets others saved.

Such is not Scriptural.

We are to be a witness and make an appeal. It is God who works in the heart, God who quickens the awareness to the need of atonement, and God who saves. God is the "Lord of the Harvest" not the witness laborers.

Our duty is to witnesses. Paul states EXACTLY why he appointed some to be evangelists:

11 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers,

WHY???
12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;

13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.

You have no idea what lifestyle/friendship evangelism is. Apparently your false perception of it is that it is devoid of preaching the gospel. That is false. I would study things before I talk about them.

Have you studied them? Of coarse I have! It seems to be you the one that needs to be informed. So many of your posts have lots of opinions, but little facts.

I do not know what you have been studying but I do not just have to study it. I live it. I practice daily. I know what it is because it is a very big part of my life. It is easy for folks like you to read what some may say about something or someone else and then take pot shots are what you do not know. But until you have gotten out there with people who put it into practice you do not have a clue what you are talking about.

Most likely you have a poor understanding of what preaching is therefore your presupposition leads you to error in other ways. Even in relationship/friendship evangelism the word of God is opened and it and it alone is the message that is relied on to lead people to Christ. And it is the primary way Jesus shared the gospel.

Is “friendship/lifestyle evangelism” the same as “servant evangelism”? I can’t keep up with the phrases and flavors. But I have read much on servant evangelism (friendship or lifestyle evangelism as a term is something I am not familiar with).

Some people say it is some think it is different. Either way the gospel is preached directly from scripture. The key is to develop relationships as you go along to build a greater trust that you have their best interest at heart.

Similar. People are always looking for ways out of doing the hark work of evangelism and confrontation of sin.

Okay I will give you an assignment. First imagine that God allowed you to travel back in time to september 10, 2011 and your audience is tower #1 of the World Trade Center. You have ben assigned to evangelize to the crowd. You will be speaking with mothers, fathers, husbands, wives, employers, elderly, janitors, custodians, computer techs, administrators, accountants, and the like. Try your friendship evangelism and see how well it works when every single person in the room would be dead in 24-hours. No what needs to be done is the preaching on sin and preaching repentance. Probably most would reject the message as most love their sin, but a few may repent if they are given the gift of faith, and God had you travel there for the few that did repent.

Primary way? No its not. Read the book of Mark and see how often he preached to people is mentioned.

Evangelism is hard-work when confrontation of sin is the goal. Have you ever been on the streets and done some open air preaching or talked with lost people? People get aggressive and hostile to the gospel as they love their sin.

false gospel.

I dont know, what did Jonah say to the folks of Nineveh.... "Yet 40 Days & Nineveh shall be overthrown!" Jonah 3:4

....and the people of Nineveh believed God, proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least of them. 3:5

On September 10th of that day, had I been instructed by God to proclaim His distruction.....would the people of NY have listened?

But now remember, God said that Nineveh was wicked.....and he told this to Jonah. Were the folks who died that eventful day ....were they wicked? More importantly, what is the takeaway message here?

Is it Repentance? Does that bring about the Lords forgiveness? Tell me what you think.
