Paul often inter-twines 3 different people-types into his writing:
(1) faithful BACs, (2) unfaithful BACs (habitual sinners), and (3) non-believers.
Perhaps his main reason for this is to very tactfully “hide” his dire warnings to some.
Often, to whom he is directing his rebukes and warnings is somewhat camoflaged.
However, God’s people “who are being led by the Spirit of God” (Rom 8:14, NASB)
should be able to “see” the staggering truths of his teachings.
So, read carefully, use some spiritual discernment, and try to understand.
Here are a few examples of “hidden” Pauline gems:
Ephesians 4:17-24 & Ephesians 5:1-7 … explanation of Paul’s message
If you have actually heard Jesus and been taught by Him, stop walking in the
life of your “old man”, i.e. sinning, but be renewed and put on the “new man”.
Sinners will not inherit the kingdom of God, but will experience the wrath of God
(which is confirmed by John 3:36, Rom 1:18, Col 3:5-6, 1 Thes 5:9, etc.).
Colossians 3:3-10 … explanation of Paul’s message
Stop sinning … sinners will not inherit the kingdom of God, but the wrath of God
(which is confirmed by John 3:36, Rom 1:18, Eph 5:3-6, 1 Thes 5:9, etc.).
Philippians 3:12-19 … explanation of Paul’s message
He has not yet been perfected, so he is pressing on toward
attaining Christ’s goal for him (holiness and perfection).
He encourages the believers at Philippi to follow his example.
However, many are focusing on earthly things, and their end will be destruction.
Romans 8:1-14 … explanation of Paul’s message
Jesus succeeded in condemning sin in the flesh so the righteous requirement
of the law could be fulfilled in believers … who walk according to the Spirit.
Yes, believers have been set free from the law of sin and death, and they are
free and very capable of choosing to walking in a manner acceptable to God.
So, believers who walk according to the Spirit are not condemned.
To be spiritually-minded is life and peace, but to be carnally-minded is death.
If the Holy Spirit is successful in leading you put to death the deeds of the body,
you will live spiritually…for those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
Romans 6:15-23 … explanation of Paul’s message
Again, they were set free from the bondage of sin, so they are actually free
to become slaves of God, slaves of obedience, and slaves of righteousness!
He tells them to stop sinning, for they are heading towards eternal death.
God’s gift of eternal life is for those who are NOT slaves of sin (which is confirmed
by 1 Cor 6:9-10; Gal 5:19-21; Eph 5:3-5; Rev 21:7-8, 21:27, 22:14-15, etc.).
Romans 11:20-22 … explanation of Paul’s message
God rejected His special “chosen people” (the Israelites) because of their unbelief.
God will also reject Christians who do not continue in His goodness, which IMO,
depends on their continuing on in faith (and whatever else true belief demands).
