Baptism and Church Letters.

Is there anyone out there whose local church's Baptism differs from emersion, as a sign of the death, burial, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ as commanded by Christ, as a public profession the person is entering a new life with Christ, yet the Baptism has no saving power? Does your church accept Baptisms on a transfer of letter that differ from the Baptism described above? Does your church send out letters to other denominations if they are requested?

Some Baptist churches in surrounding counties accept sprinkling and other variances. If they come from that Baptist church that accepts sprnklings, and then they transferred to your church, and your church requires emersion, how would you ever know?

We would not accept any other Baptism than immersion from a like minded church.

This is another question that I wish our church would address with a written, congregationally-approved policy.

I recall only one instance where it was addressed. A woman sought membership from a Free-Will Baptist Church. The pastor at the time insisted that she should be re-immersed, since it was not a church of like faith and order. She consented.

I don't think we've ever received anyone knowingly who was not scripturally baptized by a church of like faith and order. However, saturneptune has raised an important question about receiving members of other Baptist churches who accepted sprinkling. That's a slippery slope. It means we'll have to ask the right questions of candidates for membership that didn't seem necessary before.

We all fall victim to that, from time to time.

Emersion is also important, as it ensures our survival.
