What is Biblical repentence?

"It is our purpose to discuss the Scriptural doctrine of repentance. It is important because so many minds have been confused concerning the simplicity of salvation by the perversion of the Scriptural teaching of this important doctrine... The doctrine has suffered tremendously from an erroneous concept held by most men, for when the word 'repent' is used, it brings to mind of the average individual the thought of sorrow for sin... And this sorrow for sin is usually called 'repentance'. But there could be nothing further from the concept of the Word of God than the idea that repentance means sorrow for sins. From the Word of God we discover that the word translated 'repent' means 'a change of mind'... Now, such as change of mind as the Scripture enjoins when it speaks of repentance may produce a sorrow for sin, but it will be the result after one has seen his sin in the light of holiness of God and has changed his attitude toward it." Repentance is a change of mind about Jesus, from unbelief to belief. Belief and repentance is virtually the same thing.
Repentance can include sorrow for sin, but it need not.
Repentance does not mean "turn from your sin" though that is a natural and necessary action from repentance. Similarly, repentance does not mean an effort to sin no more, though that is a desire that you get when you repent.

To repent means to turn from a false belief that something other than Jesus can save you, and to believe that Jesus alone can save you.
Mat 3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

John the Baptist told the Pharisees and Sadducees to bring forth fruit meet for repentance, but what did he mean?
Was he telling these persons to stop sinning? Was he telling them to make God the Lord of their life? NO, compared to the average person the Pharisees and Sadducees were very good persons who followed God's laws to the letter. They were far more obedient to God's laws than the average person.
Phi 3:4 Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:
5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;
6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.
Saul (Paul) was blameless concerning the Law. God was the Lord of his life, he was obedient, yet he was as lost as a goose.
No, what John was telling them to turn from is shown in vs. 9, John tells these Pharisees and Sadducees not to say within themselves they have Abraham as their father.
This was their error, the Pharisees and Sadducees believed they would go to heaven simply because they were the physical descendants of Abraham. And to this day many Jews believe they will go to heaven for the same reason.
You cannot inherit salvation from your parents, you will not go to heaven because you are a Baptist and go to a church with good doctrine, You will not go to heaven because you call Jesus "Lord, Lord" as those false disciples did in Matthew 7:22. You will not go to heaven because you prophesy or preach in Jesus's name, or cast out devils in Jesus's name like the Catholics and Charismatics do, or because you do many wonderful works in Jesus's name like set up charities to feed the poor.
No, you must repent or turn from these false doctrines and believe and depend entirely on Jesus Christ alone to save you. You must come to him as a person with a fatal disease would go to a doctor and place himself in that doctor's hands, depending on the doctor alone for the cure. Or, like a person who trusts his attorney in court to defend him, you must trust your soul completely to Jesus and let him do all the work in saving you. Jesus does not need your help.

It seems that some advocating for the Lordship position does view this as being more involved then the Bible itself makes it to be!
Baloney, you cannot preach the cross and not deal with sin and the need to turn from it. It is just not possible.
I agree. However, the question was "What is Biblical Repentance"?
And the definition of repentance is "a change of mind" not "turn from your sin". Please preach turn from your sin, but don't say that is the definition of repentance. It is an outcome of repentance.
Repentance is a change of heart - change of love of darkness to love of light (Jn. 3:19-20); change of will from resistance (Rom. 8:7) to submission; change from unbelief to belief (thus inseparable from faith) = conversion. This is why one account of the Great Commission says that "repentance" should be preached (Lk. 24) and the says preach the gospel in connection with faith (Mk. 16:15).
The power behind this change is the creative power of God or regeneration. Hence, it is a simeltaneous action of regeneration/conversion.

Hogwash! That's a Charles ryrie definition. One must turn from their sin to be saved. Read what Jesus said.
Show me where Jesus said repentance is "turn from your sin". Please, show me.
Also, people can and do turn from their sin and they aren't saved.
So to repent is when the Holy spirit convicts you if the truths that you are a sinner, that you can do NOTHING to merit salvation, and that ONLY Jesus can save you from your sins, correct?

Where does it state that a sinner must forsake all kjnow sin, clean up their act first, THEN come unto Jesus to get saved?
Don't they get saved first, then the Spriit willd eal with sin areas in their lives still present?

No one has said that. People need to stop misrepresenting the view of others. It is just dishonest.
Just a point of fact. You define elect differently than a non cal. So posts like this that impose your view on it does not communicate in the way you intend. In other words you are just talking past him. Not being critical just stating fact.
Isn't that though speaking of those who have already been saved, and that being saved, they are living in a worthy fashion now?
I have had people tell me that to repent means that a person must be willing to, and to actually cease/forsake all know sin, or else they have experienced real salvation!
I doubt they meant in the sense of being perfect. But we do need to be willing to not sin against God. Jesus Himself said the reason people do not come to the "light" (which is a reference to the Holiness of God) is because the love the darkness (which is a rejection of the Holiness of God). John 3
The reason why Jesus and the cross is so offensive to the lost is because the lost love their sin.
Thank you, Rev. Not only that but I specifically asked for passage where Jesus said repentance was "turning from sin". There was none given (still isn't). I fully admit that Paul has stated this. My knowledge of repentance is that it was preached to the Jew first and then the Gentiles.
