strapless dresses

Are strapless dresses ok for Christians? I'm talking about prom or wedding dresses that sufficiently cover the torso (no plunging necklines) and come down to the knees or below. A simple yes or no will work--I just want to know how the majority of Baptists feel about it.

Now, but let’s go on. He says, “I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing.” That tells me that there is clothing that’s improper for a Christian woman. Alright? I mean, that’s just logic. There is clothing that is improper for a Christian woman.

Now, he says the clothing must be modest. Modest, this is a very important, it’s literally proper clothing with modesty, is the way it goes in the original text.

So, with modesty. My wife has a really good thing that she says and she goes, “If your clothing is a frame for your face, from which the glory of God is to shine, it’s proper, if it draws attention to your face. If your clothing draws attention to your body, to outline it, to make it noticed, then it’s sensual, it’s sensual. What you’re doing is wrong.”

I would caution Christian women about wearing anything that causes men to focus on certain areas of their bodies. Strapless dresses leave the shoulders bare with a focus on cleavage.

So for modesty's sake, I'd say for Christian women not to wear strapless dresses.

This depends on who you ask. Many would disagree. Nevermind Muslim Burqa’s, even in the Christian world if you go back to medieval times when there were actual knights, when things came up such as jousting tournaments and the knights would point out a lady in the crowd, she would usually uncover her wrist in a sly way as a thank-you of sorts. Why? Because it was a huge turn-on back then, in terms of modesty it would almost be the equivalent of getting flashed nowadays, or at least showing a garter on the upper thigh and slipping it off.

I would caution Christian men to stop acting like they are in a 14 year-old's hormone-induced trance whenever they see more than a square inch of a woman's body. Women - even one's in strapless dresses- have eyes. Look at them once in a while. I believe it is called eye contact.

For modesty's sake I would say it is nigh time for men to act like gentleman and leave the surveying of the female frame for the Mrs. :thumbsup:

But we've managed to make 19 posts in four and half hours about strapless dresses. Hm.

Nothing wrong with strapless dresses if they aren't immodest. And I don't agree with T-Hill's quote, wherever he got it. The feminine form is not immodest, which essentially is what that quote says it is if clothing worn is "designed to call attention, outline it, make it noticed." If that's the case, every Christian woman in the world needs to gather up all her swimsuits and have a mass public burning tomorrow at sunrise.

However, baring the feminine form to excess is immodest.
