So are they wrong in their message? No question their methods are very unbiblical and unlike Christ. They are a hate group. However preaching repentance from sin is a biblical message so they get that one right. What do you say?

...They are a hate group. ...?

Is a "hate group" only in the eye of the beholder.

If our church stands against hom0sexual activities, we may be called a hate group, even though we may not protest in the manner that WBC does.....

Just thinking out loud.....

Our message is both in words and attitude.

"In meekness instructing others".

"If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing."

Also, these yahoos at Westboro have a distorted view of what sin is. Consequently the repentance they preach is not really Biblical repentance. True, homosexuality is sin but there is a much wider and deeper gamut than just that one manifestation, all of which separates us from God.

To truly preach and teach about sin, like Owen and Edwards (just to name two of my favorite John's) is to lead the hearers to a truly heartfelt awareness of the hopelessness of our case. Westboro - at least from what I have read - gives the impression that outward gross sins are the major problem. But they are just more easily discerned than the refined sins like egotism, self-indulgence, private resentment, etc.

Asterisktom,
Very good stuff.

One can "turn" from every outward motion perceived as sin, and yet be as lost as the one who revels in his unrighteous deeds.

One can be strongly against Homosexual/Lesbian practices/lifestyle, as that is indeed deviant and sinful, but still need to show to them the Love of Christ, correct?

Fully agree - and would do so - even if they call our church a hate group.

I was reading Acts 4 today - in spite of the persecution - the apostles still presented the Blessed Gospel of Jesus Christ.
