Besides the free book-of-the-month here are two that are free on Vyrso:

Becoming a Spiritually Healthy Family: Avoiding the 6 Dysfunctional Parenting Styles [LINK]
by Michelle Anthony

In Becoming a Spiritually Healthy Family, Michelle Anthony unpacks six common dysfunctional parenting styles that we fall into out of habit, lack of attention, or just oversight due to busyness. If you long to show your children Jesus but don’t know how to do it, you’ll find hope in this practical guide to creating a relentlessly grace-filled home that is focused on God as first in charge.
Includes Scripture guides, reflection questions, ideas for family rites of passage, and other real life family examples.

AND

Nudge: Awakening Each Other to the God Who's Already There [LINK]
By Leonard Sweet

Brace yourself. This book is set to revolutionize your understanding of evangelism. And that revolution stands to affect not just your everyday habits, including encounters you have with other people. It will impact the very roots of your faith, the range of your mission and the limits of your freedom. In the tradition of The Gospel According to Starbucks, this groundbreaking book dares to ask: Instead of "bringing people to Jesus, how about joining Jesus in what he is already doing?" Author Leonard Sweet challenges you to use all five senses to interact with God and others. Nudge will remind you that for God to do something through us, God must be doing something in us.

Free Logos Premium for the month of June

Logos Bible Software has an interesting offer this month - get the whole kit-and-kaboodle free for one month with Logos Cloud [LINK]

But beware - for new-time users it may be up to a 7 GB download and take quite a while to format.

I personally am passing on the offer - there's too much on my computer that I haven't read yet.

BUT if you are interested in seeing how the program works you might take a close look at the offer.

It ends at the end of the month and if you want to extend it you will have to pay a monthy fee based upon how much you want.

...as I said... take a close look at the offer before you bite at it.

Must We Dismiss the Millennium? [LINK]
A critical review of the nonmillenarian theory as presented in the pamphlet: “The Millennium,”

by Lewis Sperry Chafer (1921)

Normally $8.95

FREE with coupon code CHAFERFB

Chafer taught Bible at the Philadelphia School of the Bible from 1914-1923 (now Cairn University not far from me in Langhorne, PA). In 1924, he founded the Evangelical Theological College (now Dallas Theological Seminary) and was its president and professor of systematic theology until his death.

About twenty-five years ago upwards of five hundred works attempting to interpret the book of Revelation were on file in the British Museum. One man examined them all and testified that no two of them exactly agreed. These books, however, did fall into two general classes: (1) Those treating chapters 4–20 as history, and (2) those treating this portion as prophecy. Since then very many notable works on Revelation have been written and with a noticeable increase of certainty as to interpretation (note Dan. 12:9). The later expositions, almost exclusively, treat chapters 4–20 as prophecy.
Deplorable guess-work in interpretation is usually correspondingly apologized for by many writers and teachers who insist that this book is veiled, visionary, and unknowable. The book is not veiled: it is a revelation; nor is it sealed (22:19, cf Dan. 12:9). As in no other book of the Bible, a blessing is pronounced on him that “readeth,” and on them that “hear” (naturally to understand).
It is a revelation given to Jesus Christ: not to John, and it was to be shown to His “servants.” Servants, being yielded, are Spirit-taught concerning “things to come” (John 16:13). John sees and hears that he may “write” for the “servants.”
Revelation, the closing book of the Bible, consistently presupposes the study of all that has gone before. Apart from this preparation, the book will be sealed: not by God, but through human ignorance. The message is “sign-i-fied” (1:3). No one need hope to understand the Revelation who does not trace back through the Scriptures all the symbolism employed in the book. The signs, symbols, and figures of speech are clearly designated and only those so designated may be used figuratively.

Three Free Vyrso Books - Deals Ends Friday

Enough by Will Simpson [LINK]

How much is enough?

In an age of conspicuous consumption—of designer sunglasses, jeweled cell phones, and five-thousand-square-foot homes—is it possible to be content? In a society where children spend more time worrying about their weight than their grades, is it possible to find peace? In a world being drained of its natural resources, is it conceivable that we do nothing? And with a universe of dazzling temptation at our fingertips, will we still seek the God of all creation?

Relationships: A Mess Worth Making [LINK]

by Timothy S. Lane and Paul David Tripp

While skillfully identifying the deeper issues that keep relationships less than they are designed to be, Tim Lane and Paul Tripp show readers how to experience the other side of relationships as well. They convincingly testify of the power of God's presence to bring believers to the place where:

• Conflicts actually get resolved

• Tough conversations turn out positive

• Forgiveness is granted and real love is expressed and shared

• Casual relationships mature into deep friendships

• Weaknesses are overlooked and strengths are applauded

• People are honest without being mean

Harvard Classics: Blaise Pascal: Thoughts, Letters, and Minor Works [LINK]

FREE with the coupon code BLAISE

TODAY ONLY

Blaise Pascal (June 19, 1623–August 19, 1662) is perhaps best known for his contributions to mathematics (remember “Pascal’s Triangle” from algebra class? That was his idea!). He dedicated the first half of his life to geometry and science, devising mathematical theorems and inventions—including a digital calculator, the syringe, and the hydraulic press.

However, his interests changed on November 23, 1654. In his sleep, Pascal had a vision so intense that it revived his commitment to Christianity.

10 Thoughts from Blaise Pascal

1. “Two things instruct man about his whole nature; instinct and experience.”

2. “One must know oneself. If this does not serve to discover truth, it at least serves as a rule of life, and there is nothing better.”

3. “People are generally better persuaded by the reasons which they have themselves discovered than by those which have come into the mind of others.”

4. “Why do we follow the majority? Is it because they have more reason? No, because they have more power.”

5. “Do you wish people to believe good of you? Don’t speak.”

6. “Man loves malice, but not against one-eyed men nor the unfortunate, but against the fortunate and proud.”

7. “Too much and too little wine. Give him none, he cannot find truth; give him too much, the same.”

8. “When we are accustomed to use bad reasons for proving natural effects, we are not willing to receive good reasons when they are discovered.”

9. “Men spend their time in following a ball or a hare; it is the pleasure even of kings.”

10. “We run carelessly to the precipice, after we have put something before us to prevent us seeing it. “

July's Free Book of the Month

The Free Book of the Month for July is Thomas R. Schreiner's

40 Questions about Christians and Biblical Law [LINK]

Is the Old Testament relevant to Christians?

Thomas Schreiner explains the interplay between Christianity and biblical law in this excellent addition to the 40 Questions & Answers series. Schreiner not only coherently answers the tough questions that flow from a discussion about Levitical law, but also engages students in a clear style.

Questions include . . .
  • What does the word “law” mean in the Bible?
  • Was the Mosaic covenant legalistic?
  • Does the Old Testament teach salvation by works?
  • Does Paul teach that the Levitical law is abolished?
  • Does Paul’s teaching on justification contradict Jesus’ message?
  • Do James and Paul contradict one another?

Noet Classics Freebie Friday

Today Only!
It's Noet Classics Freebie Friday again, and here are two Classics every Christian should read.

The Harvard Classics, vol. 7: Confessions of St. Augustine & The Imitation of Christ [LINK]

Use coupon code AUGUSTINE at check out.

Leland Rykens at Crossway Blog tells us about 'Confessions' in his article, Why You Should Read Augustine's Confessions

The primary story that Augustine tells is not the story of the external events in his life. Instead he tells three more profound stories, all at the same time. One is the story of his flight away from God. For thirty-two years, Augustine led a dissolute life of self-seeking careerism and sexual immorality. He was a latter-day Jonah, engaged in a futile quest to run away from God.

But interspersed passages, climaxing in the story of Augustine's conversion, add a second story to the mix. It is the story of Augustine's quest to find God. The mature author looks back at his seeming flight from God and interprets that flight as an attempt to find God. Paradox is at the heart of the Confessions. Running from God is actually searching for God.

But then Augustine puts a third layer on top of the foregoing two stories. Other interspersed passages show that Augustine believes that the real story was God's pursuit of him. Today we call this the hound of heaven motif, based on a poem by that title authored by Victorian poet Francis Thompson (a poem obviously influenced by Augustine's Confessions).

Thomas a Kempis' The Imitation of Christ is another classic every Christian should read.
The devotional, written between 1418 and 1427 is filled with godly wisdom.

“Learned arguments do not make a man holy and righteous, whereas a good life makes him dear to God.”

“Fight like a man. Habit is overcome by habit.”
